What is being "paranoid"?
    #4418599 - 07/18/05 12:54 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I hear lots of people say that when they smoke too much, they get paranoid, and they don't really like it.
All the way up until now, I mostly figured "paranoid" meant worried about being caught by cops, worried about being seen, worried about acting dumb, worried about being seen by parents etc etc.. but then my uncle told me he doesnt like weed because he gets paranoid.
However, he lives by himself in a house, and he wouldnt have had to worry about all those things I listed above..
So, I guess I'm wondering, does paranoid mean just uncomfortable in general? I'd like someone to clarify what 'paranoid' is. Like could you feel paranoid just simply from the extreme bizarre experience of being stoned out of your gord.. or would that be something else? I know from when I am so stoned I can't walk.. its so weird that it has a continual uncomfortable feeling. I feel like a box of memories as opposed to my 'self'. Like I can see each thought. I like it, but in a way it also makes me uneasy. Woudl you call this paranoia?
Sorry for the repetitiveness in this post, i just think its better to make sure people understand, as opposed to making a sentence post wehre everyone just is like..

Thanks

Being paranoid is being in a state where it's nearly impossible to get comfortable because your mind is racing about a million stupid things. At times it seems like the voice in your head is louder than the ones outside it.
"Oh my god....what the hell is going on" "oh shit what if (insert terribe outcome of event) happens?" "I can't feel my body, am I dying?"

Shit like that. It seems so easily avoidable, but man when it happens it sucks and it pretty tough to make it stop.

The thing I hate is thoughtloops. The worst one I had was I thought my entire family (both sides) was inferior to all my freinds families because I didn't have any siblings my age. In all 100 people of our family.. no one is my age (20). When I was stoned off my ass in a thoughtloop, taht made me think my family was very inferior. And then I pictured our entire lineage in a tree graph and all our anscestors. And I pictured my great great great great "" "" "" "" etc grandfather as being one of the loser apes, and getting beat up by other apes.
God that sucked..

it can be a lot of things, yes, worrying about stupid things and if youll get caught and stuff like that, but it can also be being self conscious and pessimistic. Ive heard its a form of depression.

Yes, I think it is possible to become paranoid if you are very high. I have experienced this before. I sometimes feel uneasy about things and I feel like if something bad or out of the ordinary were to happen I might freak out and not know how to deal with it.

That said, I think a little paranoia can be a good thing. Kind of helps keep you on your toes. When it consumes you is when it really sucks.

That sounds about right. It's defenitely the same EFFECT, of filtering all your experiences through some warped lense. One makes everything sad and gloomy, and one makes everything REALLY unsettling and menacing.

i cant smoke it anymore because it just gives me a crappy feelings. It started with paranoia and then just got progressivly worse till now i cant smoke it cuz it feels like i want to die. And if that feeling is not there the paranoia is and i twitch and feels like whatever i do i am being watched and judged. it sucks and it causes other things i do I.E. Shrooms and acid to get "the fear" but it only lasts a little while and i work through it and enojoy the trip. Or it just looms there and it never comes. But that happens rarely, thats why i pick and choose when i want to trip. When i do trip out its rare like shows and what not.

I think it's fair to say that weed "shows the mind to itself". You know, it amplifies whatever is already going on in there.

I used to get very paranoid on weed, because I used to be a very anxious person in general. Still am to an extent, but meditation definitely does help.

If you made a personal inner decision to fight and win against paranoia, you can and will succeed at it.

Paranoia is darkness, and can be driven far away from you with the light of the truth.

And the truth is everything is wonderful, just like it always has been. Life is a tremendous gift with millions of posibilities to explore.

You keep reminding yourself of these truths whenever paranoia rears its ugly head, and you will soon see that paranoia has no real power over you at all, like you once thought it did. Paranoia has no teeth.

I still get a panic attack every now and again, but it's usually because I'm doing something I consider to be risky, like carrying a lot of weed.

And like I said in the other thread, beer is a great "instant cure" if you need one on a moment's notice.
