Prayer and those that do it
    #4416420 - 07/17/05 08:05 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I am intrested in hearing from those of you that use prayer as part of your daily life. What has it done for you ? Where has it taken your personal growth ? What has prayer done for others around you ?

Do you think all prayers are heard and if not, why ?

For some prayer is a meditation tool to improve the way we handle ourselves. For others it is a way to get out of trouble. And still others it is a way of saying Hi to God.

What is your thoughts and maybe let us in on your "rules" or "style" of how you pray.

Prayer has many valuable things to teach us. What has it taught you ?

Let's have a real discussion on effective prayer and not a debate about prayer

if you would include meditation as prayer, then i'd say the biggest thing it has done for me is allow to accept and even appreciate many things that i was previously unhappy with. i believe that with it, i am gradually getting closer to finding the reason that i continue to live. it has even helped me to solve mathematical problems in my work as a scientist.

I talk to myself, is that considered prayer?

The Biblical portrait of Jesus was a man Whose Will [Intentionality] was so 'aligned' with 'the way things actually are,' He was called "The Way." How then, in our moment-to-moment existence, are we to become aligned similarly? Jung called such alignment 'Individuation,' and the Jungian Edward Edinger (in the book Ego and Archetype) described the "ego-Self axis" - the intrapsychic process that makes for closeness or distance between our personal center (ego) and the transpersonal center (Self), or again, between man and GOD. In this language, Jesus was "fully individuated," or in Indian parlence 'Self-Realized.' Like the 'rainmaker' that Chinese translator Richard Wilhelm related to Jung, when he meditated and formed a Sacred Center, the disharmony in the village was healed, things went back into harmony, into the Tao, The Way, and synchronicities (miracles) occurred - snow in the warm season which melted and saved the land.

I believe prayer in two ways.

1) That it's asking/talking to God.
2) That it gives one a self of hope and strong will.

I once was so fed up and broken down that I had went outside drunk, but completely broken up on the inside that I had kneeled down in my driveway and cried at the stars in the night for about an hour pleading for mercy to God.

And even though I am not exactly sure if my prayer has been answered. It still gave me hope when I looked at the sky. Something spiritual about it just made me calm.

But yeah that's just my little ... 2 cents there. :P

I used to ask my 'higher self' for guidance. But I stopped doing that when I realized I was always being guided. Now I just listen, and the answers come before the questions are asked.

Me compared to you is like comparing an abacuss to a Cray mainframe. In the spiritual education deparment, that is. I feel ignorant sometimes when I read your shit, stop it :smirk: Much praise to you for all your hard work at study........

So what you said here is that Jesus had the direct phone line and we do not ?

"Learn to wish that everything should come to pass exactally as it does"

^^^ This is what psychedelics have taught me.  I didn't know it before. :mushroom2:

WE are the direct phone line to God. You choose..

Oh yes I agree. We are the direct line to God and God is the direct line to life. One step further..... Life and God are both subject to evolution and therefore Man (Life) and God are connected in a symbotic realationship heading towards Godman. When Life and God are fully one, contuining onwards to.........
