Garden compost

I've got some Pans Cyan mycelium colonising some rye jars. I got a bag of compost from my mother's garden. it is general garden compost made up of rotted plants, vegetables, hay, some horse shit and some soil. The stuff I got from the bottom of the pile was black, crumbly and pleasant smelling.

I've never done Pans Cyan or used compost before.

Does that compost sound like it will work?

Could I partially fill a try with rye, cover with an inch of sterilsed compost then case and fruit that?

Has anyone got them to fruit without compost at all - just using cased rye?

im not much of a caser, nor have i experimented with pan cyans, but i dont see why it wouldnt work...
