Oyster Supplements
    #4415539 - 07/17/05 06:08 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

What do you all use to supplement your straw when growing oysters?

I am looking for some ideas, Id like to find something I can get local, and preferabbly free.

I have some bran I may try using but it just seems expensive.. Coffee grinds I could get for free but we are working in a certified organic farm so Im not sure how acceptable that would be, or how easy it would be to find large amounts of organic coffee grinds..

What about local leaves? There is a plant here called Burdock that grows large 2' leaves and is considered a weed. It grows abundandtly and people commonly ask for it to just be gotten rid of. Can you use green leaves as a supplement or do they need to be dried?

Thanks!
