if they actually do look like the red capped Alice in Wonderland shroom then they are most definitely Amanita Muscaria var. muscaria....var. Pantherina is usually brownish...(reportedly edible, but more powerful)...yellow to orangeish is var. formosa (found a lot of these this year...ate 20 grams didn't have an effect but was actually quite delicious)...red cap with orange towards the border is another amanita variation which is edible.... White may be a var. alba (if there is no "cup" at the base) or it may be a "destroying angel" (cup at the base) in which case better hope you get a liver transplant within 10 days or you're gone...I'd just stay away from the white ones to be safe... Also, watch out for the "death cap" (don't eat it)....looks like amanita in all other respects but is olive-greenish cap color..

Only look alike I can think of is Russla emetica, which goes by the common name of "the sickener". Only a Newbie could mistake these for Amanita muscaria though. They have a bright red cap, and white stem but no white spots. They rarely get larger than 3 inches tall, and have no veil. If eaten it lives up to it's scientific name, its an emetic, which means you'll be throwing up a lot. Properly named "Sickener." Heres a pic of R. emetica: Peace out, -Gumby

I agree... Don't fuck around with the white Aminatas, thats just asking for liver failure. Also, Death Caps can also have brown or yellowish brown fading to white on the caps... They have a volva(bulb at base) and a veil... I have no clue how anyone would mistake them for A. muscaria though. Peace out, -Gumby

You'll probably have some pretty unpleasant GI symptoms but you'll live.

How do you know it was Russula emetica? Did it burn your mouth like a hot pepper as you chewed it? Pics?

misidentifications can happen if youre not a mushroom expert/if ur a beginner? and im sure ive read somewhere that nobody would misid it because its the only shroom that looks red and the white dots can fade, the only risk is getting the brownish amanita which is toxic.

Depending on where you are at, the right Amanita muscaria in your area may not even have a red cap, but a yellow cap. Your generalization in that last post is a dangerous and incorrect one

If it wasn't really spicy, it wasn't R. emetica. It'd be awesome and really helpful to get an actual ID if you could go back and find more to take photos of. Have you experienced any symptoms?

nope, nothing at all.i just took a shit right after i ate it and thats all and i deleted the pics but im sure its Russula emetica,it totally looks like it. also i dont think Russula emetica is spicy.as far as i know only deadly shrooms are spicy like that,i found once a white deadly shroom,it had some milky juice and tasted it(i knew it was deadly) and it was sooooo spicy, just a little taste hurt my lips.maybe R.emetica have a bit of that too but the one i ate was dried so it lost the spicy milk.

Please don't eat any more mushrooms without having them properly identified beforehand.
