contam under mycelium?

uncle's parrot's mistress just birthed 12 cakes which where all white out of the jars, well colonized, mycelium fluffed a bit after birth, have stayed white for a week, noticed some darkish spots beneath the mycelium, could contams do that? it seems dark blueish to black, looks like the bruising that occured when these suspicious cakes were quarantined, but could bruising occur beneath mycelium without any touching?

they could be drying out. When the it doesn't get enough water it starts to bruise blue. You should check your humidity levels.

the humidity level reads 97% on the radio shack thermohygrometer, are these accurate? it seems to take a while to drop even when taken out and fanned, dropped 2% over about 3 minutes of fanning out of terrarium, also during the first few days in the terrarium, the cakes began to fuzz up white mycelium, which was thought to be an indication of humidity too high? so we fanned more often, maybe 3-4 times a day, and turned off the humidifier for a bit...
