Mushrooms turning black?!

one of my cakes pinned about a week ago. The mushrooms are now about 4" high, and some of them have black stuff growing on the stems and one of them on the cap :-( Is this contam or an indication of wrong CO2 levels or sthng? Can I still eat them?

well then i would say, if it doesn't look like its spreading, looks like a stain, maybe powder-like, under open mushy caps, most likely spores... if they seem to spread, grow fuzziness, appear on the top of the highest cap, etc maybe contams

I agree with ByaKKo. It sounds like all that your seeing is the fucking spores that droped from the caps onto the stems.

Yeah, prolly starting thier spore cycle... spores look like a dry fuzz on the shroom. Rot is black and slimy. What you got sounds like spores.
