Can anyone help identify a poppy?
    #4414366 - 07/17/05 12:29 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Can anyone help me identify this poppy that I have found growing wild in abundance? Lilac/purple with a darker spot, about 50cm tall, pod about 2cm roundish.

A friend of a friend made some tea from the dried pods and although he felt quite relaxed that evening, he felt a little bit ill the next morning, too much perhaps?

any help welcome.

In which case, assuming someone was foolish enough to extract the opium from them, what would be the best way for them to smoke it?

Homemade lightbulb vape (emptied high wattage lightbulb + fitting screw cap + 2 pieces aquarium tubing) or tin foil a la 'chasing the dragon'.

It's normal for people to get sick on opium. Smoking it isn't gonna change that.
I wouldn't lance any pods unless the poppies are on your property and away from sight. Plus lancing is a LOT of work for little product.

Papaver somniferum var. Nigrum

Congratulations! If it grows in abundance you might have found Johnny Poppyseed ^_^

I have a question about the light bulb vaporizer. I tried making one for a little bit of opium some time ago.

But after I made it, I tested it with some herb to see how it worked. The grass tasted really chemically and felt really harsh on your throat. Just wondering if that's normal or if it could be a harmful chemical or something.

was it a frosted lightbulb by chance? if so then you prolly didnt clean out the frost, and yes you prolly inhaled a poisonous chemical if it was in fact frosted.....

peace

It was originally frosted but all the frosting came off after rinsing with water. I even did one after that that wasn't frosted but had the same effect.

lightbulb frosting cannot be adequately washed away.
i can however quite adequately contaminate a vaporized media.

Y'know, all lighbulbs produce a vapour which is somewhat harsher because it isn't as hot and will condense sooner (thus burning your throat and lungs). Whereas a normal pipe will produce a really hot gas that will not - for the most part - condense before it reaches the bloodstream.

BUT, frosted lightbulbs is a no-no. And even the clear ones must be thoroughly cleaned.

I boil mine in water, than give it an acetone wash and than, just to make sure, i set it on the stove for a minute or so (although i never seen anything vaporize out of an emptied, well washed lightbulb).

About the chemical taste, i dunno what it was. I never felt any chemical taste when smoking from a lightbulb (well, unless i'm smoking chemicals in it :tongue:). I hope the chemical taste you felt was just your perception  :crazy:

just use salt next time, after emtying it, but in about 2 tbs of salt and shake it all around, then rinse with water, and it will be perfectly clean.

peace :rasta:

ps...i remember this from my meth days....sad, sad days

If it has purple in the flower (the spot) it's a Nigrum. it is actually the Album variety thats used for opium production most often.
Albums tend to have more juice flow, Nigrums more podweight.

Album = best for lancing
Nigrum = best for pods
