Dehydrator vs. Fan Dry

i recently harvested my eq's and i used a dehydrator to dry the mushrooms out. i was wondering if the mushroom potency was effected much by the dehydrator since it heats up as well as blows air. any help is much appreciated.

I dry mine around 97F in a dehydrator, with a temp dial setting. I hear so long as a dehydrator is under 135 / 140F. It doesn't affect potency. Sure beats the hell out of drying - any other way. Set it & forget it.

Fan drying wont as there is no heat, although they do loose a tiny bit of potency from fresh to dry AFAIK.

well, i don't fan dry, i just let them sit out in open air. but i'd have to say, they stay portent as fuck. they won't cracker dry, but i've yet to discover the downside of that.

I myself have had a big loss in potency when I dried them with a cheap dehydrator, I'm the temps were above 120F. and I'll tell ya doin an 1/8th (dried) and barely feeling anything was devastating since I had dried alot and was now stuck with a bunch of cellulose matter. Under 100F. works over that is relative, remember potency loss occurs from the moment of harvest thru the process of oxydation, it is our job to keep that loss to a minimum.

I wonder how drying them on the back of a computer monitor would compare to a dehydrator as far as potency loss??

They can be stored in the fridge fresh if they are going to be eaten right away, like within 4 days or so.
Freezing them wet destroys the cell walls and when they unfreeze you'll have a mushy mess.

True freezing fresh will leave ya with a black mushy mess when thawed. FYI I have taken fresh and wrapped them in papertowels and stored them in the fridge until they were cracker, this works because of the fridges low RH levels, it takes awhile but it works. One tip though if doing it like this it's best to reposition the shrooms at first during the first few days otherwise the papertowels will stick to the sides of the shrooms (PITA). also a monitor should work just fine. GL guys

when i was in the army, my friends and i used to pick cyans by the bread sack full. we had noway of drying them, cause we lived in the barracks, so we put them in the freezer. it looked so disgusting nobody would touch it, except those of us who knew
