a problem i have
    #4413184 - 07/17/05 12:01 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

i am not good at explaining things.i dont know if i lack diction or what... when i trip, its the same thing. Ive seen the most spectacular things, ive been inside my mind and beyond, but im never able to make a good trip report. i might be able to explain some of the things i am seeing and the way im feeling at the time of the trip, but can't really sit down and put in detail the experience i had. i see some amazing trip reports and wonder how you do it.

I dont know man.. .is a trip report necessary?
I've tripped... *a lot*.. of times. I don't think I've ever wrote a "Trip Report".. besides recounting my experiences to someone who wanted to hear.. my perceptions at the time.

To me it's just all about what you take away from the experience.. sometimes words don't do it any justice. In fact, for me, most of the time.. words fail to even come close to describing it.

"So..what's a trip like?"

That must be the hardest question ever to fully answer.

many people agree that tripping is an experience, and it changes ones perception of the world and themselves. how can it make such an impact if you cant recall your trip?

Recalling it.. and putting it into words are two completely different things.

true, but recalling it.. and recalling it in detail are completely different too. being able to recall some of your trip is totally different then being able to remember every detail- like how you were feeling, where you were, what you saw, your reaction to what you saw and felt, what your feelings were before the trip, what knowledge or experience you acquired from the trip etc..

I always think the best way to do that is write your trip report while tripping... but who wants to do that when the universe is filling you?

i agree, i would think that writing it while its happening would take away from the experience

As much as words are useless at describing tripping (and for that matter, most of the complexities of human emotions and interactions with each other and everything around us), they are what we have to work with, and I think it's a great exercise to work with them. The need for a trip report is different for different people.

For me it's almost a sense of closure. Sometimes I feel like just by writing out my trips I learn a hell of a lot more from them. I even see common themes through the trip that I may not have noticed before..

You should really take the time sometime to search for the perfect wording to convey your experience...that doesn't necessarily even listing what you saw visually, but just explaining the tangle of emotions your brain was becoming while you were tripping.

You wanting to write a trip report is a clear sign that you want people to understand where you go when you trip, and that's great. Give it a try and think of a trip report as a project, a work in progress that you can edit after the fact, not just for other people to read but for yourself. And if you really want other people to read it, just remember, it is NOT that hard to write in complete sentences with capital letters and punctuation! (Not saying you don't - just that those trip reports always drive me kuh ray zee.)

robot, thanks for the insight.you are a prime example of how a trip report should be written. everything you write, trip report or not, is put in such detail. it puts the person in your shoes. that's how i want to be able to explain things. By the way, did you read my PM?

I did and I'd definitely wanna chill sometime soon but now is not really a very laid back point in my life...I managed to find a new place, now I need to find a job and deal with a lot of shit with my dad and getting my diploma from my university. Later in August would be cool...especially if an NY gathering gets rolling.
