Hey, Im new to growing and have all questions answered except one. I plan on my first batch doing 25 jars. I figure 5 may be contaminated so 25 to make sure. Then Im going to put them into big Rubbermaid things. I read the thing that said 10-15 grams. Does that mean dry or wet. But my question is how much dry weight on average comes per cake. I read that it is 10 wet grams = 1 dry gram. I just need to know if it is worth doing right now. Thanks, Aaron

It's definately worth doing. I got 23 dry grams off of a pint of birdseed cased (first flush). Cakes yeild less I heard but you'll get enough to make it worth doing no matter what you do, as long as you do it right! Go for it!!

23 dry grams off one pint of birdseed? That sounds way high, and it's probably because you don't dry your mushrooms completely, as you stated in another thread. Partially dry and cracker dry give you two very different weights, so check your numbers.

True, it slipped my mind. Around how much moisture content remains in 2-3 day fan dried shrooms approxamately?

Not sure, but it's a lot more than if they were completely dry, I know that much.

I have been growing cakes for almost 1 1/2 years now. I can tell you this much, but everybody is different.

12 cakes = 2 1/2 dry oz on average.

Sometimes a little more over all flushes but not much.

This equals about 4.5 grams dry per cake.

This does vary as I have had probably upwards of 3 + oz on ocasion.

I have also had batches due poor every so often and only fruit maybe
1 1/2 dry.

So with 25 jars you will have 1oz - 4oz dry.

Wow. I didnt know cakes could have such a great turn out. I was figuring if you wanted that many grams, you had to use the casings.

It was casings. I was just lending encoragement for him to try this hobby. My first grow was these casings.
