First Grow, First Post
    #4411796 - 07/16/05 01:24 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

First off, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Shroomery and all the people that make this community what it is.  I've learned so much, and if it wasn't for all of you, I would never have been able to get as far as I have.

Anyways, I am in the middle of my first grow, and all has gone well.  Up until this point, I've been able to answer all of my questions by searching through existing posts.  However, I have now run into a couple things that I'm not sure about.

As you look at the pics below (camera died, had to use camera on phone), is it odd that all the growth seems to be on the bottom of the cake?  I figured this is because of all the moisture from the grow rocks.  They also seem kind of skinny.  The strain is B+.

Also, the mushrooms on one side of the cake seem to be developing little cracks in the center of their caps.  Is this a humidity issue?  I'm guessing I can't just slap a band aid on there and they'll heal up.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Anybody know what is causing the cracks in the caps of some of the mushrooms?

i believe rolling is for the purpose that the mushrooms will grow on the sides of the cake as well. they're growing on the bottom becaue that's where the verm is...

the caps break from either too high humidity or too low, i forget which though. or maybe it has something to do with temps, i think it's humidity though...

Good Job,Congrats.

The shrooms are growing from the bottom because thats where the most moisture is, you are correct. If you are going to continue with cakes :frown:, try rolling and Double End Casing, I used both when I did cakes, these are some of my B+,

The cracks are from low humidity,

I had these do this before I realized the humidity in my greenhouse was fine on top, but a lot lower on the bottom. Increase your humidity and they will be fine.

Good Luck.

Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony.

Thank you Hippie Chick!!  I've read and learned a lot from your posts in my months of lurking around.  I have to trust someone who often has one of my heroes in her avatar (Mr. Gilmour).

I don't plan on continuing with cakes for much longer.  Thought I would try them out first, and hopefully make some prints for the future.  It was kind of a pain to get spores, as I live in CA and about as far away from another state as possible.  I figured I would try the cakes first, and if successful, move on to bigger and better things.

Again, thanks for the help, and I'll see what I can do about my humidity problems.
