Edible mushrooms in West Virginia
    #4411746 - 07/16/05 03:12 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I know that there are edible mushrooms in WV. Does anyone know specific locations for edible mushroom hunt? (forest name, for example). I would like to go, but I think it would be stupid to go to a random forest. I tried to google this info, but couldn't find anything. Thank you.

Look around for a local mushroom society. They will be more than happy to guide you. You only look foolish if you don't try! You will need an experienced guide to recognize true edibles from the nastys for a while. I drag in every mushroom I find and try to id it for practice. Im really bad! So far, I stick to known spawn from suppliers and try to grow them myself for stuff to eat.

Yea when I go out, I don't ever pick, I just go for experience! It take a while but eventually you start to recognize signs and you get better and better and your knowledge just grows! But a mycological society is a great place to start. They always have some very knowledgeable people in their.
Have fun and take care!
