Should I pull up the bigger mushies? *pic fixed*
    #4411663 - 07/16/05 12:39 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Notice the masses of smaller pins and the relatively smaller number of larger mushrooms? Should I pull out the larger mushrooms to allow the smaller ones to mature?

This is a wbs cased in coir/verm, first flush.

If your not printing, wait until the veil starts to break, then pick. That's what I do anyway. What strain is that?

I have no idea what strain it is. A friend of mine bought a few "easy grow mushroom kits" from Homestead books, and when he showed me them they were fruiting and I did some prints for him and for me. He lost the paperwork that came with it so I have no clue but they show a lot of blue.

They get ordinary room light. Some diffused sunlight from the window, and the room light stays on at night. At least 12 hours a day, often more.

I use a reading light with a flouro energy saver bulb, and it's like 3 ft above it, but I bet it could be quite a bit higher..

I read somewhere that you need only a millisecond or three of bright light per day to initiate pinning. What purpose does the light serve to growing fruitbodies?

Nothing.

They only need this much light->if you can visibly see them in ordinary indirect room lighting, they will fruit just as if they had constant light.
They are not plants that need light, they are a fungus. If you can see into the room that you are growing them in,they are getting enough light.
I have never used any light at all and well, you know the results that I get, lol.

My two cents!

Doc

I actually have been fruiting succesfully in a basement with no light source besides a basement window, but I have a terrarium with a light over it too..

If it means any thing I have been doing very well in a crawl sapce under my house with a 20 watt light bulb about 40 feet away from the shrooms. It is one 24 hours seven days a week. The temps under the house are at a constant 68 degs. The mushrooms love it.

About picking your shrooms. You pick em as the cap starts to flatten out. Or just after the veil breaks. Picking big ones early to give the smallers ones rooms will do nothing but give you a smaller harvest.
