Preservation methods?
    #440517 - 10/29/01 10:04 AM (22 years, 5 months ago)

Well, i need to be able to store my mushies for at lengths of up to two months prolly not much longer then that...

Is there anyway that i can preserve it by keeping the water inside? I need the weight of the mushie to be as heavy as possible (before ya start flaming me for selling them, let me say i dont i give them to "friends" for favors... I'd be giving it to them for free anyways, but this way they do things for me that i wont get into right now) :)

Can i just zip em up and stick them in a freezer or what?
Thank you

YOU MUST dry shrooms to keep them for longer than a week. Don't try to freeze them or you will get a disgusting gooey mess upon thawing.

No, just dry 'em dude, it's not much of a tragedy, if you dry 'em properly they don't lose in potency.

Yeah, you gotta dry'em man. Why do you want to keep the water in? It's just water.

Welp in that case can someone give me a suggestion for which drying technique i should use?
Ive read that ya gotta dry em fairly fast so they dont rot and that heat destroys the potency..

The method that I use is the easiest, and it's always worked for me. I put a box-window fan in a dark closet, set it on medium and stick two plates of fruits in front of it, wait 3-4 days and Im good to go. Not difficult.

no, he said medium. low might be better though. the outside dries up and seems to seal the moisture in sometimes

I think CO2. I've read that you can put im in a glass jar, and mix some vinegar with baking soda, then "pour" the CO2 that is produced into the jar. Since CO2 is heavier than air, it should displace the oxygen. Just seal the jar shut when it is full of the gas. I've also read that you can drop a small piece of dry ice in the jar, wait for it to evaporate, and simply screw the lid shut. If you try the dry ice way, be sure that you don't screw the lid shut before the dry ice is completely evaporated, or you might send little shards of glass all over your room.
