id please--black spores?
    #4410921 - 07/16/05 07:59 AM (12 years, 10 days ago)

I found these recently in a park with deciduous trees (my tree research is going to start up again when the mushrooms stop fruiting, so all I can say is a on the forest floor in a deciduous grove of trees). The stalk was about 10 cm, and the cap about 7 cm across. The cap was a yellow/white, and the stalk a brownish red. Attachment and stalk features are as you see. Annulus and bulbous stalk base. I didn't pull apart the stalk, though, and a picture of the stalk is probably necessary too. Forgive me where I have fallen short.

To me black spores gives you either psathyrella or panaeolus (coprinus is out for these) and I see nothing in either. In which genus would you send me looking for these? Am I imagining black and seeing brown?
What relevant information have a left out?

Interesting mushroom. Pan.and psath. both have attached gills. I'm thinking you have some kind of coprinus. Why are these out?
Were there others? An elongate cap on young would definately put me in this genus.?.

Looks like it belongs in the genus Agaricus. The black spore print doesn't fit, maybe Stropheria.

That spore print doesnt really look black to me. Closer to a dark brown maybe. Def not a Pan. IMO. I could kinda see this being an agaricus maybe, but Im not too familiar with that genus, s dont take my word on that.

A heavier spore print would help decide the color better.

I'd start in Stropharia for that one. are any parts slimy or sticky? If it's dry there, try wetting your finger with a drop of water and rubbing the cap surface to see if it becomes slimy.

Happy mushrooming!
