How about having a friendly looking entity (mushroom, A woman in the vein and dress of Lady Liberty, etc.) extending her hand and HELPING him to fly the coop?? Or holding the cage door open for him to fly free.

It seems that it would be comforting and it wouldn't have anything bizarre on the front to reiterate that the person is indeed having a bad trip.(instant comfort)

I don't know if ya'll want to stick strictly to shrooms, but people have bad trips on all sorts of stuff, so you could maybe mention the effects(duration) of acid on there also. It seems that it would bring in people of all types by showing that The Shroomery has a Little something for everyone. But maybe not...just a thought.

I'd love to help design this card, but I know nothing about graphic design.

Yeah... this idea seems a little surreal, almost creepy. If i saw that, i wouldnt necessarily want to read what was on the card, i might get too paranoid and think it was a trick or something...

Why not a  :tongue:, with a positive message, giving a healthy boost of confidence? "remember, your just hallucinating" :wink: ... lol, that was a joke,

but seriously like something. "Dont worry now, everythings gonna be alright" :wink: : ) ... with a nice wide smile, and some nice pleasing tones... with a little note on the bottom saying "friendly advice on back of card". or something... I dont know. But i just think that picture is a little, f r e a k y.

i think it should have some kind of text that guides the person to change his mindset. like "imagine a spere of warm protective light around you." or something of that kind.

now i've only had three trips that started going bad (as far as i can remember). but each of those times ive managed to save the trip by focusing intensely on positive imagery.

i discused this with the mods the other day and we can not promote the use of valium or benzos on te card for legal reasons...

I think its a cute idea.....I don't think you should take the statements too seriously though, do you think someone gonna get you one when your tripping???

I would recommend as a promotional aid (I've done a bit of advertising for my three businesses) something a little more positive...ie...learn to grow like a pro or Prepare, Explore, Educate ect.

Also I would recommend using yellow paper instead of wasting all the yellow ink.

Hopefully I'll have time to submit something...

My entry... I redrew the monopoly guy/cage in a vector drawing program so its scaleable and print quality, its already in cmyk, the back side is consistent with our other business cards, yadda yadda yadda, W00T. :grin:

On a more serious note: It is a very charming idea, but there are two kinds of Bad Trips: Bad Trips caused by wrong dose/wrong day/wrong enviroment and Bad Trips caused by inner psychodynamics.

For the former category this charming idea of "get out of a bad trip free" card can be very effective. Even a humorous design will do the trick sometimes.

But psychological Bad Trips... there is no "get out free". There should not be an easy way out. The only way out is to surrender and let the horrors unfold. Then it will turn out to be not as bad as you thought and you gain insight along with experience.

Your monopoly card idea however suggests escape. The text should not be escapist. There is no "free" way out of a bad trip, that's a consumer society quick fix.

The way out actually is the way in.
Reassurance should not be aimed at holding on and getting out, but rather letting go and going in. The experience is SAFE. Fighting it is NOT. If you are scared of the drug and do not trust it that actually can harm you.

Imagine a horrified kid holding the card, the cardboard limp with sweat, rocking back and forth and groaning: "getoutfree-getoutfree-getoutfree-getoutfree"
That's holding on, clutching at straws. The bad trip then is guaranteed to be bad up to the very end.

Hmm.. what to put on the card?
I think the main message should be that it is *safe* and that you should try to relax and let the trip do it's thing.

I know it's not a music festival message but then again mushrooms are not a music festival drug.

IT IS NOT DANGEROUS
RELAX
SURRENDER YOURSELF
IT WILL PASS

This is the best sequence I can come up with, perhaps differently worded. Naturally the above card isnt my serious entry for the competition!
