Need ID help!
    #440821 - 10/29/01 03:02 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

I was in a local park and found shrooms. The gills are yellow and look like a sponge. They bruise right off a brilliant blue color. The cap is brown and looks like white cracks all over. Is this any good?
Also, if any shrooms bruise blue does that mean they are good because I found what looks like the Psilocybe Cyanescens and they don't bruise bright blue it sort of looks more like a bruise you might get (black/blue/purplish) Please help!!

You need to take a spore print before anything else.
Do you have a field guide?
Just because it bruises blue dosent mean shit.

The mushroom you found with the sponge-like gills is probably a Bolete of some type. There are several of these that bruise blue. They're not magic.
The other mushroom you definitely need to, as shitdog said, take a sporeprint. The sporeprint color is very important in IDing any mushroom!
A purple to purple-brown colored sporeprint is what you'll be looking for.
Definitetly get a couple of field guides, one dealing with psilocybes in general, and one on various species if you can.
