Alice in Chains appreciation thread

Written by Jerry Cantrell All dreams have died along the way I coughed up the price, I bought a cage I've had a hell of a time since I went away Don't know when I died or where to lay down Gone, gone away Yeah, gone, gone away God knows I've tried, I'm dyed in pain Strong yet simple drive, the freedom to say I've had a hell of a time since I went away Homing on traces of light, that distance fades Repeat chorus So they say with time we slowly heal I caught a flash of your smile throught the fog of a dream I'll have a hell of a time, I clearly see I can't be by your side, I'll see you when I sleep Now you're gone...gone away Yeah you're gone...gone away
Yes with all Dead/Floyd threads I now deem it an appropriate time to start another AIC appreciation thread. For those who don't already have or haven't seen the AIC unplugged DVD I recomend your check it out as well as Jerry Cantrel;s new album. Thats all.

I loved and still love AIC:
Yeh, it goes away All of this and more of nothing in my life No color clay Individuality not safe
As of now I bet you got me wrong So unsure you run from something strong
I can?t let go Threadbare tapestry unwinding slow Feel a tortured brain Show your belly like you want me to
As of now I bet you got me wrong So unsure you run from something strong
I haven?t felt like this in so long Wrong, in a sense too far gone from love That don?t last forever Something?s gotta turn out right
You sugar taste Sweetness doesn?t often touch my face Stay if you please You may not be here when I leave
As of now I bet you got me wrong So unsure we reach for something strong
I haven?t felt like this in so long Wrong, in a sense too far gone from love Strong, I haven?t felt like this in so long Wrong, in a sense too far gone from love T hat don?t last forever Something?s gotta turn out right

Yeah that was a really cool song. It seemed to have alot of cooperation between jerry and layne. I like how they each alternated vocals on that.

MMHMMM! And god how I loved the sound of Layne, in anything. And they were such a solid sound to me. That hit me like a rock when I found out he died. That was a horrible loss. I still have a feeling of great sadness when I'm listening to songs like this one:
Be what you wanna be See what you came to see Been what you wanna be I don't like what I see Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter will Heaven beside you... Hell within And you think you have it still, heaven inside you So there's problems in your life That's fucked up, and I'm not blind I'm just see through faded, super jaded And out of my mind Do what you wanna do Go out and seek your truth When I'm down and blue Rather be me than you Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter will Heaven beside you... Hell within And you wish you had it still, heaven inside you So there's problems in your life That's fucked up, and I'm not blind I'm just see through faded, super jaded And out of my mind Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter chill Heaven beside you... Hell within Like the coldest winter will Heaven beside you... Hell within And you know you have it still, heaven inside you So there's problems in your life That's fucked up, but You're not blind You're just see through faded, overrated And out of your mind

Lane Staley was JC second coming. Man, old times .... When i was a grunge singer like 10 years ago, we played some AIC and STP covers, but AIC was always my favorite. I miss them ...

AIC...words can't descibe my feelings towards them.
I knew them.
I first met Layne when he was with the band called Sleze.
When Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley hooked up...it was Magic!~
Sue Silver was AIC's manager...she lived a block down the street from me growing up...her brother was one of my playmates. She is married to Chris Cornell...of Soundgarden and Audio Slave fame. I partied with AIC, Soundgarden and several other local bands and got to know them. I used to listen to some of them play in the studio and in some of the Seattle clubs. It was a wonderful time in my life.
The King County Medical Examiner positively identified Layne's body on Saturday (April 20), following an autopsy. April 20th is my birthday...it was a terrible day to say the least.
Please visit the Layne Staley Fund site... http://www.laynestaleytribute.com/index.html
my favorite AIC song...
Down In A Hole
Bury Me Softly In This Womb I Give This Part Of Me For You Sand Rains Down And Here I Sit Holding Rare Flowers In A Tomb.....In Bloom
Down In A Hole And I Don't Know If I Can Be Saved See My Heart I Decorate It Like A Grave You Don't Understand Who They Thought I Was Supposed To Be Look At Me Now A Man Who Won't Let Himself Be
Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul Down In A Hole, Losin' Control I'd Like To Fly But My Wings Have Been So Denied
Down In A Hole And They've Put All The Stones In Their Place I've Eaten The Sun So My Tongue Has Been Burned Of The Taste I Have Been Guilty Of Kicking Myself In The Teeth I Will Speak No More Of My Feelings Beneath
Oh I Want To Be Inside Of You
Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul Down In A Hole, Feelin' So Small Down In A Hole, Losin' My Soul Down In A Hole, Out Of Control
I'd Like To Fly But My Wings Have Been So Denied
Rest in Peace Layne!~

I know it will never be AIC but does anyone care for any of Jerry Cantrells solo works?

I love both albums of Cantrell's. Especially Degradation Trip double album. Its got some really really great songs on it.
But, yeah, AIC, amazing band. I dont listen to them as much as I used to since I got into electronic music, but I still put on Dirt every few months.

If I could, would you?
I still very frequently listen to AIC MTV Unplugged. These guys were amazing.

I bought a bunch of CD's, not having an AIC CD I thought I'd buy Dirt. That CD is terrible. Honestly, I dont mean to sound disrespectful even though that may be what I am doing, but what exactly do you like about them?
I hear the word "amazing" mentioned about them a lot...from what I heard it sounded pretty generic. I'll put on the CD right now to see if I can hear what I didnt hear before :P

his solo records put faith back in me for a hope of a new guitar wave :/
sounds cheesy, and even though technically cantrell may not be a randy rhodes, he's one of the best IMO. alice in chains.. damn. dirt's been in the case for too long.. time to break it out
