I once had that problem. At the time...I had a friend tell me that there was a virus going around. She called it "the bagel virus". It causes your computer to shut down and then restart. Mine was acting the same way as yours was. It sucked ass. I did a scan and sure enough...there was a virus. She fixed it and I've never had the problem again. I don't know if that was the real problem or not...but have you tried scanning your pc for viruses yet?

I had this problem as well, dunno if it was virus though. It would only crash when I executed certain programs, so I figured it was either a trojan or some real nasty spy/ad ware. None of my scanners could pick anything up, it was bullshit.
Eventually I just whipped out my whole comp and reinstalled windows. Took care of it

Hi. It can be produced for two reasons:
Hardware problem - restarts without displaying any message, such a a reset pressing the button. This may be a problem of the power supply, I think.
Software problem - if you run Windows there are some viruses that make a message appear telling you restart in X seconds. I recommend you patching your operating system (Windows update) and installing some anti-virus (there are some free, for example antivir). I recommend also installing Seek&destroy to delete Spyware.
Regards!

I highly doubt it's a virus, but if you want to be sure and clean yourself anyway, go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
What it sounds like to me is that it's overheating. I have had this problem many times. You should invest in some compressed air and clean the fan. By the sounds of it, it's not cooling well enough and shuts down to protect it from overheating. Many people forget to keep the fan clean and run into this problem.

one time, i had the problem of over heating, but it would restart every 2-10 minutes... when i opened the cover to check it out, i found my ribbbon cable was over the fan, so it wasnt sucking any air in...
so yea, power supply, over heating, or virus... or other hardware/software issues (i know, i really narrowed it down... )

could be memory. get the memtest86 cd boot image and test it.
Take the case cover off and look at the fans see if they are clogged up with dust as. I think a lot of newer bios has some sort of warning if the machine is going to overheat or after it restarts and overheats there is a beep code or mine says it over the speakers what the crash was.
also the people that made your motherboard probably have some type of probe to monitor hardware temps.

Sounds like one of your fans might not be working, most newer mobos automatically turn off when they get hot. Its happened to me just last week. Open up your computer and see if a fan is not running. The little fans are not that expensive and you can easily replace it yourself. As for a virus, it could be run a search at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ its free and works pretty good.
