I just bought it, haven't read it yet.
-------------------- when you're watching television the higher brain regions (like the midbrain and the neo-cortex) are shut down, and most activity shifts to the lower brain regions (like the limbic system). The right hemisphere is twice as active as the left, a neurological anomaly. The crossover from left to right releases a surge of the body?s natural opiates: endorphins, which include beta-endorphins and enkephalins. Endorphins are structurally identical to opium and its derivatives (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.).After just 30 seconds of watching television the brain begins to produce alpha waves, which indicates torpid (almost comatose) rates of activity.

I read this book and though I thought it was good, I didn't think that it was anything new. It's the sort of drug literature that is fun to read but doesn't really add to the field - it's not like Pinchbeck is doing any research into or heavy speculation of drug experiences (a la McKenna).

Great book. I totally agree with mikeytwice though. Nothing new. Other than his talking about iboga, which you don't really hear that much about.
I've also got 2 coast to coast shows with him as guest, and I have another mp3 of his where he did a lecture at some type of psychedelic/literature convention. Its pretty good.
His next book, due out next year is all about psychedelics and 2012, can't wait to read it.

I just read it last month and really enjoyed it- its chock full of really interesting, oftenly outrageous ideas. True- much of what he says comes from Walter Benjamin, Terrence McKenna as well as many other philosophers, but Daniel really puts it together nicely. One donwside was that I started reading it a few days after I had an amazingly wonderful and influential trip. I feel like I had somewhat cut short the introspective uplifting process that follows a life-changing trip by thinking about the many ideas Daniel brings up in the book. I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel when my group invited him to speak at my college. He's a really great guy- very different from the egos you often see in the psychedelic field. He has a good website with the same name as the book. Good message board, but i seems like there is only maybe one post every day or two. He will respond to any questions.

I remember him talking about the 2012 thing at the lecture, as he did in the book. Apparently the Mayans and Mckenna independently figured out that there was going to be 'another' shift in consciousness in 2012. Symbols of these past shiftsare apparently visible on each ascending step on the several-tiered mayan pyramids.

If bio has the same files I do, the show is about 50-80 megs. Not sure if you're email can take files that big. Just to let you know. Better to go on to Soulseek or some program like that.
