My poppies are flowering
    #4402523 - 07/14/05 07:53 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Yay my poppies are flowering, and I only planted them last spring. I thought it would take another year for them to reach the flowering stage. They have pink/puplish flowers and only flower one day.
There are four poppies. One behind the Pedro, two on the right and one at the front/bottom.
So would slicing these little bulbs yield anything? And how do I slice them? Deep cuts, vertical or horizontal?

Thank you. How do poppies cope with the winter?

Well, I think if you plant them in the fall then they will grow to a certain point and then become dormant over the winter until spring or something along those lines. when spring comes around they start right back up from where they left off. I have never done this myself, but I *think* this is how it happens.

When should I harvest the pods?
I harvested some today, but then I saw a white fluid coming from the remaining stem. Maybe it was still growing.
