Verm in the poop?
    #4401955 - 07/14/05 01:35 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys, just wondering what the point of putting verm in H-poo is. If you use WBS as spawn for poop, why would you want verm in there? I assume mixing straw adds nutrients? or do both just help the mycellium network?

Thanks for your response!

verm keep the poo nice and fluffy so the myc grows stronger/faster and helps retain water as well for more flushes

I use vermiculite all the time in my poo. It is the best way to increase the hydration of your substrate, and if you are using really high spawn rates (like 30%+), you really should have it if you know how to get a heavy pin set to take advantage of it.

Straw doesnt add nutrients...its pretty crappy in nutes, and not that great all around. It WORKS though, and is easier to get large amounts of straw then poo...best to leave out most, if not all, straw though. Verm and coco coir are both great to get a nice fluffy fiberous texture and to hold in water..and if you add them to the poo dry, they soak up all the nutritous poo water (like straw) and help add a little something something.

Nothing usual, 10-20% works...I soak my poo, then drain off almost all the water..then add dry verm until water content and texture is right..theres a great FAQ on prepping like that in the FAQ by agar.
