50/50 casing - tons of aborts . . . help
    #4397933 - 07/12/05 10:38 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Does this look like an unusual amount of aborts? this is 50/50 Vermic with peat moss. I'm thinking the temps are too high and needs more air exchange, which has been about 4x a day.

Your casing looks dried out , possibly from the high temps. Mushrooms are over 90% water , the lack of water in your casing is causing them to abort.

See the casing shrinking away from the tray...

And notice the dryness?

Damn. First casing attempt. I've been tempted to mist, but kept reading over and over that it's not needed if casing was soaked properly.

I'll try misting and hope for some recovery -- if it's not too late. Should i allow more air exchange by leaving the top of the terranium (rubbermaid bin) open a bit. The humidity here is pretty high as it is.

Way to DRY. If it is mostly aborts?

I would remove them, deep scratch, remove old casing mix & add more new casing mixture.

Then - re-fruit out & KEEP it moist, as in moist, as in moist.

Moist looking - as above.

you MUST mist. If you are willing to spend the minimal cash and time, invest in a humidifying system, coolmist, ultrasonic, etc...
