Pinning Problems
    #4400187 - 07/13/05 05:03 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

It is really hot right now in Toronto (32C). I am having difficulty getting my casing to pin, the mycelium just keeps growing. The casing layer has sealed, not allowing any more water in. Will it pin eventually? What should I do?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Drop the temp! Turn on your AC.. Put ice near it, something to cool it down a little..

I would aerate it it a bit, knife it a little, clean and then it will re-establish and fruit, if you have the right conditions

Try putting it in the sun for about 10 minutes in a plastic bag to keep it moist. Don't let it get hot.

GOOD GOOD GOOD!

So all I can expect from too high temps is a poor pinset, possible overlay, and slow pinning time? Fine my me, if I at least get a quart dry. BTW, I colonized and cased a tupperware container. I think its about the size of a quart jar. It's neat, I glued a Tyvek filter directly to the tupperware container, and it acts as a colonizer and fruiting chamber in one.

1-2 2liter bottles of frozen water in your fruiting chamber will work nicely depending on the size of your FC. Also if ya get a chance read this, Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy..
