I fucked up!! need advice!!

Oki, Heres what I did. I just pressure cooking my first wbs jars and I forgot to rinse the seed off after I soaked it. For some reason I didnt see that part of the tek. I am using the 6t wbs tek. My question is, can I enpty the seed back into the colander, rinse it and the pressure cook again?, or do I need to soak new seed?

Nah man, just shoot up your jars, its fine. I never rinse my seed, waste of time.

the seed seems to be all sticking together tho, theres like this white crap on them. Same kind of the stuff I got with cracked corn with i didnt rinse it. Its just making it harder to shake apart.

Sounds like it wasnt drained properly then...well I will tell you that you can dump the jars back into the colondar and rinse and PC again if you want...I dont think it'll help but I'm not sure I usualy soak and simmer my seed and mix in dry verm to soak up anything extra on the oustide of the seed.

Up to you, but you can do what your asking without overcooking the grain or loosing sterilization or whatever else you might be worried about. Of course if you rinse and dont strain well enough, you could add more water to the seed which will cause it to end it crap. so better make sure its right this time. Adding some dry verm slowly may help you out. You can see pics of what I'm talking about in "How I Do Grain" in my signature.

Thanks alot for the advice. Maybe I didnt dry it enough, but I let it sit in the strainer until no more water would come out. Next batch I will follow the method in your signature. Thanks again!!

I had the problem of not drying enough with WBS my first time... thought i fixed it and turns out it was too wet again, about half way through colonization a yellow muck would form at the bottom of my jars. Solution - drain over night.

Happy Trails and GL to ya

draining is very important when working with WBS. i would skip the simmering part. Simmering releases starches in the WBS that can prolong the growth of myc and become vulnerable to contams.

I ran into that problem as well in the first few batches of wbs I did. I just soaked and pc'd with water added to the jar. They clumped together pretty bad, still colonized tho. Just couldn't shake em so it took a couple days extra.

Okay guys, I decided on emptying the jars and putting them back in the strainer, rinsing, adding some verm and the pressure cooking again. I figure its better to empty it and get it right then take the chance on having problems halfway through colonization. If that happened I would have wasted alot more time then waiting an extra day to inoculate. I think I filled them a bit too full which was also making the hard to shake in addition to them sticking, so I am going to turn 10 jars in to 12. I am going to inncoulate the remaining 2 jars which will not be rinsed to see what happens.
