torch questions
    #4397970 - 07/13/05 12:46 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I've found allot of information that varies a great deal regarding the proper amount of cactus that one would consume.
Anywhere from 3-6 inches to 12-18 inches.
The common suggestion I've found through my searches here and elsewhere is 12 inches.

I was going to try an 8 inch piece of fresh torch.

but I found this on erowid, about pedro.
This is what got me thinking.

--8 oz (226 gms) whole, unpeeled, fresh cactus == 270 mg mescaline
12 oz (340 gms) whole, unpeeled, fresh cactus == 400 mg mescaline

My 8 inch long, by 3 inch wide piece of torch weighs 600grams

This is from erowid.

--------------------
Threshold 100 mg
Light 100 - 200 mg
Common 200 - 300 mg
Strong 300 - 500 mg
Heavy 500 - 700 mg
-------------------------

Will this 8inch, 600g, piece put me in the deep end?

I've never had an experience with cacti before
I would preferably like to aim for common to strong.
Going to far isn't really a big deal, I'm sure I've seen worse.
It doesn't scare me.
I would just like to be able to operate my stereo.
play with some of my toys, and just be able to kick back and relax, and let my mind wonder.
Being able to answer the phone would be nice too, but it doesn't really matter, I can pass on that.

I mainly just want to avoid the death, re-birth trip. :ooo:

Anyways, its just the weight of this chunk that had me concerned.

Do it up?
Cut it in half?

Thanks alot for any input.
Sorry if this has been beat to death.
I searched these forums, google, and erowid, and couldn't find anything specific enough to help me out.

thanks again.
:sun: :sun: :sun:

Save the 8 incher. Plant it, let it grow out, or get another one.

As for avoiding the death, rebirth (now why would you do THAT?)... you really shouldn't have any problems even on 3 feet of cacti.

nice

the 8 incher is a cutting from the middle of another cacti i have
i grafted the top back onto the base.

I was just concerned because, if the info from erowid is close to correct,
I'd be up towards 500-600 mg.

Oh well, im not worried anymore, im just gonna go with the flow, see what happens

thanks.

How long did it take you to grow your pedro?

the torch came about 20 inches tall last year
it hasn't grown much this year, i don't think the roots got fully established, i got it towards the end of the year.
i have a pedro, with a damaged tip, that put out 2 pups right before winter last year.
this summer they're up to a little over 4 inches, and i still have half the summer to go.
the roots werent quite established on that one either, but it took off this year anyway.

How much attention do they require? I mean, is it tough to get it growing right? I'm moving into a new place next month or September and my roommate is gonna be cool with me growing.

idk, for what you get out of them it just seems like it takes too long to grow. maybe im just an impatient person but i dont want to wait over a year for the maturation of a single cactus... there should really be a better market for synthetic mescaline
