ive been hearing alot about crushing shroomz into a fine powder. in doing that, is there any affect on the potency after a period of storing them that way? and whats a good way to crush them.

my friend uses a coffee grinder but I dont know about potency affects, but in my opinon its lost during drying not grinding but then Im not sure on this

If you are going to store them in powdered form then you need to pack them extremely tight, and put them in an air tight container, preferably opaque or amber colored glass. The way you pack them is key.

I'm sorry I have to disagree. I have used mine ground up for years now and they store just fine in a little ziplock type baggie. Light has no effect on potency and as long as the bag is sealed you will not have any worries about keeping them dry and potent. AFOAF had some for almost a year and they still kicked his ass at 3 grams. Enjoy

No, just get damn coffer grinder, you can find them in any store that sells household appliances.
I bought mine back in an antique shop, it's a manual one, even tho it's more effort, it generates no heat and I can control every single "grind" I do :)

capsules can usually be found at health food stores, along with agar agar etc...
i have a friend who used this process regularly. caps that were tightly packed had no noticeable potency loss after 10 months even.
people often use the term "cracker dry", but even crackers contain moisture from the surrounging air. exactly how dry is "cracker dry" and does anyone have a simple way to test the level of dryness? fan dried followed by dessicant chamber should be enough before grinding right? and does the powder absorb moisture while it is sitting round waiting to be packed?
the friends capsules are usually packed extremely tight to remove all oxygen, and stored in a cool dry dark area to further minimise potency loss. but what effect would even small residual amounts of moisture have on caps?

Cracker dry means they shrooms are very light and brittle. They snap without bending. This is best achieved by fan for a couple of days until dry and then putting in a dessicant box for a few more.
You are never going to remove 100% of all water dessicant will do what you need. The powder might absorb some moisture when sitting around but unless you leave it out in a damp room for a day then you don't need to worry.
The theorectical danger of powdering your shrooms is the increased surface area which might might expose the chemicals in it to oxygen and water and thus speed their breakdown. Having said that, the porous nature of whole dried shrooms might do this anyway. This is why people recommend packing in airtight containers. Low temperatures should also slow down any chemical reactions.
I for one keep my shrooms whole in a jar with dessicant in the deep freeze. They have been fine after a year.

I reckon a pestle & mortar (usually marble and MUCH cheaper than anything like a grinder) is definately the best thing to use - you still get it ground to a fine powder, but without worrying about heat from a motor etc...
And as for caps, I empty out old herbal/vitamin ones which have passed their use-by-date - recycle!
Oh, and also once I left some crisp-dry whole shrooms in an as-far-as-I-could-tell airtight, cool, dark dessicant-filled jar, but their potency was less than those which were just as dry but had been capped straight away....

Use a small electric coffee grinder and store them in a canning jars in the freezer if you want to. Adding some Co2 to the jar helps. They will last you at least a year without much potency loss.The loss you have will be negligible. After a year or so, about 20-30% potency, gaged by FOAF experience.This stuff's not like crack. Hell, you can grow enough to negate the loss in potency. I notice many people here worry about minute amounts of this stuff as if they, "pay" for it.
If you've had'em for over a year, not stored properly, as I sometimes do, I just shitcan the batch and grow another!
Practice makes perfect. Nothing like a fresh batch anyway.
