I put 3 jars in PC. LOL I forgot to put foil on them!! I opened one up and touched a little of the verm. it seems dry? do you think it will be OK? Should I redo? th pc is very very small and the water level was 1/2 inch to 1 inch.

you don't need to use alum foil...but it does protect the jars.

can I re Pc that jar? Also should I or could I redo them ALL with tin foil? Or would that hurt the BRF? they all seem fine not wet at all. So the foil is not "NEEDED?" just a precaution? thanks RK!!

maybe...you might lose the proper moisture content of the jar when you try and redo it.
I'd just throw the one jar out.
leave the other jars alone...they are fine.
just follow a tek to the "T" til you get the hang of things.

I'm almost positive you can re-use a jar. It's not like they are absolutely clean and sterile when you buy them...

just dump out the jar you opened.
wash it out good.
and re-use it.

Just a suggestion,
when the jar is relatively new like that its cool just to open and wash,
but if you have somekind of unknown contam later on in the process
its better to pc the jar then wash.
I got a bad ass respiratory cold for a few days dealing with shit without pc'n the contams.

ONE more thing. I forgot witch one it was I opened lol. So I redid them ALL now I am going to foil on them. What is the best way to foil.I covered the whole jar. Should I only cover the top?

Just put some foil over the lid, you dont have to wrap the whole jar, or use something to hold it on there.. It's just another airflow barrier.

i thought the point of the foil on the jars was just to keep the water from the PC from dripping in.

tonsillitis is caused by bacteria or a virus, but usually by the strep bacteria.
not by mold.

After I sterilized my last batch of 1/2 pint jars and it was time to inoculate, whenever I stuck the needle in through the tyvek, it would rip every other hole or so. I couldn't have that so I totally unscrewed the lids and put new filters/tyvek over them, then inoculated. Just goes to show you can do this and not have to worry about contams too much. I rarely get contams. Out of about the past 72 jars I have inoculated, 2 have contammed, and they were WBS quarts....

hey thremix, u should put labels on your jars, like even just a,b,c etc. so if something different happens to it u can write it down and know exactly what happened with what. also, even if a jar gets contammed, dont just throw it out, easy to clean and sterilize again.

Same here, I usually find it easier just to replace a jar than to make a glovebox or to be all anal about sterility.
