    #4396408 - 07/12/05 03:42 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

just my guess: nice day for a hike, time for a better camera though

Tylopilus Chromapes:

Volvariella Bombycina:

Psathyrella or simmilar?

Possible Mycena or Hygrophorus:LYM: little yellow mushroom

Amanita Rubescens: if ID is correct it's edible but i'm not risking it

Boletus Edulis? taste very mild not bitter

and some Chants: I have been watching these for a few days. gonna let them grow some more before picking. there were about twenty spots that all had between 25- 50 buttons like this.

yeah I like that one too. with a better camera it coulda been a postcard. NH is a beautiful place to hunt. You certainly don't find the quantities as you do in the Northwest, but that's fine, I enjoy studying the mushrooms that are unique to this environment.

central NH, lakes region. these were all found right near my house. though My most interesting finds have been in the white mountain national forest. some from last year include, Grifola umbelletus (1) 4-pound chunk, sparassis crispa, and most of the more common edibles, including a hundred pounds or so of matsutake

Beautiful pics. Hunting in the northeast can be pretty rewarding , though of course nothing can touch washington/oregon/bc (except for maybe new zealand).
I think that the one you ID'd as volvariella is actually a pluteus. Are the gills attached or free?

thanks for the responses.

"Pluteus species are easily seperated from Volvariella because they lack a volva" (bessette: mushrooms of north eastern north america)
this has a very distinct volva (though the pic is a crappy angle)

the gills were also free from the stalk it was found solitary growng on a wound in an oak tree.
The thing I found interesting is that oysters grow on this very same oak tree in the fall) infact that is what i thought it was when i zoomed by in my car, which is why I stopped and turned around to go and check it out. ( this seems to happen daily now) I get some pretty strange looks from people as they drive by and see some guy poking a large tree with a stick.
