'Terrorists' used High-Grade Millitary Explosives in London

Terrorist gang 'used military explosives'
By Michael Evans, Sean O?Neill and Philip Webster

A SINGLE bombmaker using high-grade military explosives is believed to be responsible for building the four devices that killed more than 50 people last week, The Times can reveal.

Similar components from the explosive devices have been found at all four murder sites, leading detectives to believe that each of the 10lb rucksack bombs was the work of one man. They also believe that the materials used were not home made but sophisticated military explosives, possibly smuggled into Britain from the Balkans.

?The nature of the explosives appears to be military, which is very worrying,? said Superintendent Christophe Chaboud, the chief of the French anti-terrorist police, who was in London to help Scotland Yard.

News of the breakthrough comes as a Times poll conducted in the aftermath of the bombings indicates that an overwhelming majority of the British public favours a tough approach to terrorist suspects. Almost 90 per cent of people want the police to be given new powers to arrest people suspected of planning terrorist acts, tighter immigration controls and strict baggage inspections.

Londoners, who bore the brunt of last Thursday?s carnage, were not as supportive of draconian measures as people in the rest of the country.

The public anger will strengthen Tony Blair?s hand as he prepares to speed up new anti-terrorist laws to help the hunt for the bombers. ?If, as the fuller picture about these incidents emerges and the investigation proceeds, it becomes clear that there are powers which the police and intelligence agencies need immediately to combat terrorism, it is plainly sensible to reserve the right to return to Parliament with an accelerated timetable,? he said.

More than 800 police officers were being drafted in to assist Scotland Yard?s anti-terrorist branch in Britain?s largest criminal inquiry. Film from 2,500 CCTV cameras in the centre of the capital is being examined and more is being taken from cameras across Greater London. Detectives are also searching for a vehicle, flat or garage that the terrorists may have used as a bomb factory.

It is understood that the examination of the No 30 bus at Tavistock Square has yielded vital fragments that have sharpened the focus of the police inquiry. Forensic pathologists have been paying particular attention to the remains of two bodies found in the mangled wreckage of the double-decker.

A senior police source said: ?There are two bodies which have to be examined in great detail because they appear to have been holding the bomb or sitting on top of it. One of those might turn out to be the bomber.? A decapitated head was found at the bus scene which has been, in Israeli experience, the sign of a suicide bomber.

The confirmed death toll stands at 52 but is expected to rise. Police family liaison officers have been assigned to 74 families. As London prepares to hold a two-minute silence and mass vigil on Thursday to commemorate its dead, 12,000 United States service personnel have been ordered not to visit the city for security reasons.

This article follows the typical shoddy trend of journalism. It makes claims without backing them up or even trying to explain them, such as... How were the explosives constructed as to merit the conjecture that they're both high-grade and used by military? What's the point in reporting things to the public which at this point can't be substantiated to them?

And it also looks like the Britons are falling for what Americans fell for a few years ago. Problem, reaction....

"Almost 90 per cent of people want the police to be given new powers to arrest people suspected of planning terrorist acts, tighter immigration controls and strict baggage inspections."

...solution.

"Detectives are also searching for a vehicle, flat or garage that the terrorists may have used as a bomb factory."

So they have no idea where the bomb was made. Just covering all the bases.

These terrorists who time and time again show that they have some awsome connections. They pick days and times of government drills involving the exact same situation, and they are able to get high grade military manufactured explosives. And all the while no one in the intelligence agency can find out what they are doing, until a few hours after a terror attack of course.

Amazing skills these terrorist have. Must be all that hard core training at the afgan caves. Now if only someone could catch that Osama character, then the world would be safe again. I think the USA should bomb and invade some more thrid world countries, that might solve the problem, and while they're at it we should have some of our civil liberties taken away, I think we have to many. Like Bush said, there ought to be a limit to freedom. :P

Strange times we're living in thats for sure, no matter what side of the political spectrum you stand on. We're all in for some major changes in the near future I think.

It sounds like they believe it's Semtex?, the C4 of Europe and the almost-Middle East. It's really not that hard to obtain if you are a terrorist. If they analyzed for ethylene glycol dinitrate, the chemical taggant added to Semtex, they'd be able to say almost with 100% certainty what the explosive was. I don't think that it's even the explosive prefered by most European nations now... 'real' C4 is much more popular. I think that most military/commercial users prefer the straight RDX composition to the PETN/RDX.

Ya i could very easily see the same thing that happened in the US happen in europe. People will start giving away a bit of their freedom in exchange for security.

London bombing explosive traced to Balkan Muslim extremists

London bombing explosive traced to Balkan Muslim extremists
July 12, 2005 (Serbianna) --- A Retired Serbian Colonel, Milovan Azbejkovic, says that the explosive used by Muslim extremists to kill Londoners comes from the Balkans.

Colonel Azbejkovic who was the head of the Serbian Military Technical Institute says that the explosive has features that are identical to the one produced by the a factory in Berane, Montenegro. The explosive was produced as part of the Yugoslav military until 1991 and was supplied to all the former Yugoslav republics, including Bosnia.

Superintendent Christophe Chaboud, the chief of the French anti-terrorist police, who was in London to help Scotland Yard says that "The nature of the explosives appears to be military, which is very worrying." Similar components from the explosive devices have been found at all four murder sites, leading detectives to believe that each of the 10lb rucksack bombs was the work of one man.

According to the Serbian intelligence sources, Muhamed al Guerbouzi who is also known as Abu Alsa and is being investigated by the British police, lived in a Wahabi community in Bosnia near the village of Gornji Rasljani by a Bosnian town of Brcko. British intelligence believe that the materials used in the London bombing were not home made but sophisticated military explosives, possibly smuggled into Britain from the Balkans.

"Only four countries produce plastic explosive" says Colonel Azbejkovic and "military price is $20 per kilogram. An evidence exists for every gram of this explosive so it's impossible for anyone to smuggle that out of Serbian warehouses."

Spokesman for the Serbian army, Colonel Zabic said that recent claims that the explosive comes from Serbia are unfounded.

However, says Azbejkovic, during the wars in the Balkans, this explosive was widely used and was outside Serbian control.

"Even now, as a hand grenade or otherwise, you can find it everywhere, especially in Kosovo where the illegal trade in weapons is in the hands of organized mafia" says Azbejkovic.

According to Azbejkovic, this particular explosive is extremely elastic, and it can be easily glued around a human body. British police believes that the London bombers were suicide attackers.
