manure and pasteurization

why is horse/cow manure, not required to be sterilized? I've searched alot but cannot find the answer. In the process, I did learn a bunch of other stuff (like Firefang for example), but I don't understand, why manure is not brought up to a higher temperature and actually allow heat to kill off all microbes/spores/fungi present.
I assume the higher heat alters the manure in some way to make it less desirable as a substrate.
I found a reliable source of manure (I got the tip from a post here, it said to call local stables and riding clubs and ask, I'll be darned if they weren't happy to help me further my "myco-education", of course I told them it was intended for gardening, which, in a way, it is!)

Sterilizing kills ALL the bacteria in the poo. Pasteurizing only gets rid of the bad ones that cause contams.

Sounds good to me, except I've never seen documented proof of this. Why we pasteurize poo for Cubensis applications makes very little sense to me personally.
Try doing nothing, and spawning to hydrated poo that hasn't been sterilized OR pasteurized. It works.

ok, so pasteuriztion kills the bad stuff but lets the good stuff live. So what is the good stuff? I read about Firefang, but to be honest, I never totally understood HOW the good stuff helps?
I assume it's not required, because other teks don't rely on pateurization (for example, PF-Tek, Whole Grain such as Rye and WBS (Wild Bird Seed)
I believe that the genus Cubensis is found in nature on manures of various animals. From my reading and looking at Grow Logs, It seems that recreating their natural environment makes a huge difference

If anything bad is in your poo, pasteurizing will kill it. If nothing bad is there, nothing needs to be done to the poo. But at the low temp of pasteurization, firefang is kept alive, which fends off contaminates. Sterilization would kill the good stuff and leave it open to bacteria if you spawn in open air. You can sterilize poo, but then it needs to be kept sterile..if not sterilized, be it pasteurized, or nothing (depending on nature to have done the work for you) you can spawn it open air.

ok here ya go.... The purpose of pasteurization is to kill or neutalize all harmful organisms. These are mainly nematodes, eggs and larvae of flies, mites, harmful fungi and their spores.
I suggest getting "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Paul Stamets. It will have all you need and then much more...

Your comparing shit from an animal, to grain from a plant. Grain gets sterilized, poo gets pasteurized...thats the best way to do things to be SAFE.

ok guys, thanks, I think I understand. I am just a curious guy, with a bag of freshly collected "aged" horse manure.
Paul Stament's book is on my list.

yeah paul stamet is a pretty cool guy, i got to talk to him a couple of times, he is where i get most of my books and some of the outdoor legal shroom spawn and kits from, if you want to get the book from his site its www.fungi.com, it would be cheaper than getting it from walden's books...

TMC is good material, but dated. I have a copy of it, and honestly you can learn more up-to-date techniques and applications hanging out here, than you can from that book.

SCORE !!! I've spent every night (for a couple of hours) for the last couple of weeks reading everything I possibly can.
But I do want to the book. I might run down to Portland Oregon, there is a used book store there called Powells. I checked on-line, and they have a copy for $19.95
