Bangkok - The bodies of a Buddhist couple were found shot and nearly decapitated on Friday in restive southern Thailand, adding to the five other beheadings in the past three weeks, police said.

Jad Suwanchatree, 52, a defence volunteer in Muang district of Yala province, and his wife Serm, 51, were riding their motorcycle to tap rubber from a plantation when they were killed.

"As Jad stopped his motorcycle to remove wood which blocked the road, he was shot and slashed in his neck, as was his wife," police in Yala said.

"Their heads were not totally separated from their bodies" although a doctor confirmed the cause of death for both was their neck injuries, police added.

More than 720 people have died in southern Thailand since the violence erupted there in January 2004.

maybe the Buddhists need to change their Iraq policy.

Or Perhaps if the Buddhists weren't so warlike and oppressive to Muslims this sort of thing could be prevented.........

but I guess they did something in a previous life to deserve this.

I hope Islam has no problem with me being atheist.

Dont you know?  The Muslims are being oppressed by the Buddhists.  They are also being oppressed in America, England, Spain, Italy, Russia, Netherlands, Sudan, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sir Lanka, Kashmir, and Indonesia.  When will the world stop oppressing Muslims?

Affirmative action in the temples. That will cure their cultural unity.

I sincerely doubt that it was religously motivated. I've been to Thailand, and the vast majority of the population is Buddhist.

have you ever heard of Islam the (religion of peace)? well they are moving into Thailand and apparently do not like the Buddhist religion.

here are just a few headlines with links.

Muslims have carried out almost daily bomb attacks, arson and ambushes despite Bangkok's olive-branch approach in recent months.

Lao Buddhist workers beheaded in Thai Muslim south
BANGKOK (Reuters) -

Muslim militants have beheaded two Lao migrant workers in Thailand's mainly Muslim south, police said on Sunday, believing it may be the same group that beheaded a Thai Buddhist teacher last week

July 8, 2005: The Islamic terrorism in the south has resulted in some two thousand casualties (nearly 800 dead) in the south so far this year.

That's nearly a dozen casualties a day.

Because most of the violence has been directed at government employees, especially teachers, there has been an exodus of teachers from the school system. Over a thousands teachers, most of the them Buddhists, have asked for transfers to jobs elsewhere in Thailand. The government is having a difficult time replacing the missing teachers, even though there is now a "combat pay" bonus for teachers in the south, and help in arming teachers down there with pistols for self-defense.

"The note said the militants would kill two civilians for every innocent Muslim detained by the authorities without evidence, police said."

That's from the first link...I would interpret that as they are targetting civilians, not Buddhists in particular. But like I said the vast majority of Thai are Buddhist so it may just appear that they are hunting Buddhists.

Either way...that's pretty fucked up.
