These are two wbs/ coir/verm casings:
The first one looks nice and is producing fruitbodies:
The second one look to me to be overlaid. It has not begun pinning yet, though it is a few days younger than the other one so this is somewhat to be expected.
Does it look bad enough for a deep scratching, or should I leave it alone?
What do you all think of either and both of these casings?
Thanks for helping!

I would leave it alone, the growth is all rhizomatic, overlay is more like a mat..

I wonder why they look "snow-capped"?
Is that normal, or indicative of some type of problem?

I didnt notice the pins on that first casing when I replied to your other thread...that one is looking very good for where its at. They are snow capped because of high humidity...where droplets form, mycelium grows..I would back off misting just a tad still...the casings look plenty moist enough to handle it, you only need to mist when it looks like its needed..let them go through transpiration.

Looking good dude.
That first casing, looks really good from what I can see. I would lay off the misting too. When you see the water forming droplets on the surface like that, I always let them evaporate just a little before I resume misting.
The second casing looks good also = give it time, lol.
Other than that, You got it going now!
Cool beans Bro!!!!

Well, thanks a lot you all!!
Here's an update on the first casing, 24 hours again later..
A wider angle of the same casing:
A recent shot of the second casing, with mycellium knotting becoming obvious:
And a pic of a stupid little jar casing I decided to do just for fun and experience..
I plucked a "volunteer" from the jar, and the bluing was incredible on the stem, reminded me of a copelandia..
YAY!!!!!!

I would, and/or would have, picked that tall scraggler on your casing. Shrooms like that, a little ahead of the rest, seem to pull from the rest of the flush..just my opinion though.

Both casings are over colonized but neither have overlay too bad. That is the reason your pin set is good but not great. You need to work on proper initiation for your particular casing mix. I would also water the casing less and keeping the RH around 98% rather than pegged at 100%. Water when the mycelium gets too fuzzy. Water too much, though, and you get a lot of growth on the top. Below is what casing should look like when it's fully colonized. You can get it to stay that way, and not grow further on top, by keeping the RH just below 100%, not watering too much, and taking advantage of the nightly temp drops to trigger pinning.

Thanks, prosthetics, but I haven't seen a tray like that for awhile. See I had a really bad round of luck where I couldn't get any casing to colonize well. A big thread and the guys in the advanced forum helped me get it straightened out. Now everything is back to the good old days, even better really. I got a couple trays now that are probably going to seriously challenge the avatar. I'll be posting some pics in a few days as the pin set kicks in. Right now it looks like the pins are going to be so dense that they'll be growing on top of each other.
