One cake out of my first 12 has become cantaminated, in the terranium.
It was smaller than a quarter size area of greenish fuzz, looks like velvet. Is this trich? I'm not absolutely sure.
Anyway, the area did not get bigger at all in 2 1/2 days. At this point, I heated up a knife and performed surgery, cutting out the small infected area.
Now, it is growing back in the cut area the very next day.
The cake began pinning since the contam was noticed and placed in an isolation terranium. The pins have gotten bigger, despite the contam and the surgery.
Are these mushrooms, whether they grow or abort, healthy to eat? ...'healthy enough', I should say.
I heard someone say that a lot of contams won't hurt you, just that they ruin the chances of fruiting.
Any pointers here, ladies and gents?

If it's green(trich), they will be fine to eat. I believe black mold is the one you want nothing to do with.
Good Luck.

I would not eat any shrooms with green mold on them, or that contact the green mold..other then that you would probably be ok eating them. Of course the mold spores in the air isnt good for your breathing, or the cleanliness of your house so I would throw the cake away as soon as mold is spotted, and personally wouldnt eat anything off moldy substrate, but I'm not that desperate for mushrooms.

Sorry, I didn't mean shrooms with green on them, lol. Meant clean shrooms off a substrate with some green on it. I would toss it myself. Have had a casing that got some green during a harvest and they were O.K. None were actually in contact with the mold though.

At least that's what I was lead to believe when I wanted to know about these, lol

Oh jeebus...you ate those and were OK? That's good enough for me.
I definately wouldn't eat any green crap, obviously. I just wanted to make sure there were no nasty toxins flowing around in my cake.

No, I didn't eat those, lol. Just spreading the Info I gathered when I asked about them. Fruits from a sub with some green on it, if clean themselves, are safe . Nothing spreads through the network into the shrooms that will hurt you. That's what I was told.

Thanks for the advice.
