My life's plan
    #4392672 - 07/11/05 04:02 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Well, as we know, it's difficult to set any sort of plan in stone when it comes to life.

But the planning part is so FUN.

Basically, my plan is to have a psychedelic ranch in BC.  I want to buy at least 50 acres of wilderness and eventually turn it into a completely self-sufficient operation.  I will butcher my own cattle, grow my own vegetables, mend my own clothing, etc.  I'll have horses, lots of "goodies" in the greenhouse, lots of cabins for guests to sleep in, and lots of room to explore and roam.

The goal is to be totally self-sufficient by the time the nuclear war starts.

The best part is, I want Shroomerites to live with me, sort of like a co-dependant operation.  Not like a commune or anything.  I mean, I'll have to charge rent or exchange rent for labor or something, but by the time the nuclear war starts I'm sure we can work out something.  But I'll gladly offer a bed to anyone who stops by my psychedelic ranch.

I honestly can't wait...it'll be awhile before I can see this to fruitation.  But still, I'm excited.

I doubt we'll have a very stable economy, so charging rent won't work too well, you'll probably have to let people work for their rooms.

Plus if there is a nuclear war, life on the earth's surface will be pretty much entirely destroyed.

Working for rooms seems like a solid plan, especially if they are working on supplying food and drugs.

Work for food and drugs + earn shelter = what else can you ask for?

He supports it, since we're both fairly certain that humanity is sitting on the cusp of something big. He thinks it will be a genetic revolution. I want to say social revolution, but I think things will get worse before they get better.

So we want to be prepared when the shit hits the fan.

We'll probably go live in a small house in Vancouver after he graduates, and then when we have enough money and find the right place, get some land. I want there to be at least a small lake or river running through it, for summer watertime fun.

It's not like we're all doomsday about it or anything...we just feel that civilization is about to get even more perilous and want to have a place to escape to when the bombs start to fly.

Honestly, I like that idea better anyway. Since it will be a working, self-sufficient farm, we'll need all the help we can get.

I'm actually thinking that we'll have an outbreak of some disease...there will probably be a biological attack (and maybe already has been, who knows) before a nuclear one.

I just want to be ready for anything!

It would be a very, very bad thing if there was a nuclear attack. It would be the end of humanity.

Nice idea except for the nuclear war part. I think all of it wouldn't matter once the bombs start falling.

I really can't...it's my husbands whole theory. He's a bit of a science buff and loves reading about medical technology. He believes that eventually humans will halt aging through genetic engineering. There's more to it, but mainly he believes that we could cure cancer and a host of other human ills by tampering with our genetics.

You should have him look into the writings of Stephen Jay Gould. He's the anthropologist who came up with the Rapid Evolution theory. It's conceptually different than what your hubby's into, but would provide him with some interesting food for thought (if he's into speedy genetic modification).
