horse poo with cobweb inside pasteurized bag (tenn studd)....
    #4392361 - 07/11/05 12:36 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

a friend got some 50/50 poo/straw mix from tenn studd, but kept it in the bag for about 2 1/2 weeks before using it.  Upon opening it, he noticed cobweb mold has grazed across the surface of it, though it wasn't too bad, it was definitely cobweb.  he poured h2o2 all over it and let it soak for a bit then ground up/mixed with spawn as usual.  what would you say the chances are of a successful spawn with this?

and if Tenn Studd reads this, on the site is says bags should be used within 4 weeks of delivery, well it was only two & 1/2 weeks, so if you could pm me if theres anything we could work out, maybe a coupon for another bag or something would be great.  i'm just afraid the whole 5lb is going to be lost to cobweb before the spawn can take hold.

BTW, the poo/straw pre-pasteurized mix has great consistency/moisture content.  other than the cobweb, I'd give it two thumbs up.

How SURE are you that it was cobweb? Was it VERY light, wispy, almost hard to see, but a definate white tinge of a growth on the surface (firefang, not cobweb most likly) or was it thick, grey, LONG (inch or longer) hairs extending ALL over and taking over the poo (cobweb).

I wish I had a camera, I'm just about positive it was cobweb. It extended quite a bit off the surface, maybe 2-3mm, the growths were about 3/4" long. I've seen cobweb many times before, and it looked identical to what I've seen, but I guess theres a chance it was what you speak of, firefang? I'm less familiar with that...

If it extended off the surface, then it was probably cobweb......I am not sure if the h202 will kill it, some say yes, I say I toss contamed shit cause it aint worth my time and spawn...

Firefang is a type of fungi naturally present in animal manure, and mainly responsible for the composting process. Its a good thing for us...there are pictures in the growlog section by agar, posted recently so should be on first few pages..of some firefang.
