well welcom aboard Nick. Before you invest any money into this awesome hobby make sure you read up on everything.....EVERYTHING. Do a few practice runs with small amounts because it sounds like you want to do bulk. 1) to meet this problem double tub tek which austin has a very good pictorial. 2)U want O2 not C02 plus contamination is a huge problem in this hobby. 3) Pf tek is good for personal amounts and for enough for friends.....this is where you might to stick around and read the forums for a few weeks don't be in a rush to blow money. 4) outside is fine, indirect. stick around because ur missing a few things in your plans. example you do not want to use the lid as the base why? Because it will be a bitch to open plus sounds to me like ur using the PF Tek so ur going to be using perlite.....Very messy. Good luck.

Never thought about what kinda trouble it would be to open the lid. Heh. Guess i'll have to rethink what i'd like to use as a terrarium.

Actually, I think using the lid as the bottom would be an excellent idea. The lid wouldnt need to seal on but most rubbermaids wouldnt be any more difficult to pull the bottom off the top, especialy the snap lock ones with locks that snap in on the side (slide to the side locking on the lid)..would be easy, and when you lift to fan, you would basically remove the whole chamber, including walls, making fanning very very quick, 2 seconds. And without perlite or geolite (since using a humidifier) it shouldnt be a problem not having the depth.
