Preparing for first solo trip
    #4390358 - 07/10/05 05:44 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone. I've been using mushrooms for a little under a year now, and I've recently joined the shroomery. I've read nearly all of the FAQs and important posts and I'll probably be lurking more than posting for awhile. I read and study a lot, but my actual firsthand experience with entheogens is pretty slim.

Anyway, as the title says I'm preparing for my first solo trip soon. It will also be the highest dose I've ever taken, 4 grams. The most I've taken previously is 3.5g on a few occasions. I'm choosing to do it alone because every time I have taken mushrooms with other people, somebody in the group has a bad trip or a panic attack or otherwise requires supervision and clear thinking. Being the only person in my group of friends who actually does their research and respects psychedelics as tools instead of toys, I usually get forced into the leader/supervision role, not letting me enjoy things or go off on my own to meditate.

For example, the last trip I went on was with two friends. It was the first major trip of one of them, 3.5g, and he spend two hours convinced he was dying and we needed to call 911 and his mom before I convinced him he was safe.

Now, I'm not worried about a bad trip personally, because I've never had anything but happy thoughts and visuals on mushrooms. I think I'll be alright on my own. I'm planning on going for a 9 mile hike in my favourite forest (where I've had most of my experiences) with some breaks for meditation. The trails are clearly marked and I know them all anyway. I plan on bringing some mellow music (The Grateful Dead and some Beethoven come to mind), LOTS of water, sunscreen, a small snack for when I come down, some herb for the nausea and because I always smoke it, and a notebook.

Anything vital I'm forgetting or helpful advice?

get a sitter who isnt tripping and you can trust for just in case scenarios. bring some gatoraid also so you dont dilute the nutrients in your blood out cause of excessive water intake. but i would def say a sitter cause you never know.

I don't know, the one time I had a sober sitter he completely ruined the experience. He messed with me, made fun of the way I was speaking, etc. I just don't have anyone who I can trust to be a responsible and considerate sitter.

I say go for it I love solo tripping on shrooms, and I totally get where your coming from, my friend was a sober sitter for me once and he just fucked the whole trip up for me.

No kidding. He was a really close friend of mine and I totally thought I could trust him.

Had he ever tripped before? Or was he just a good friend that you figured would make you feel comfortable?

No, he'd never tripped, but he's normally a nice person. That's probably the main problem, I assumed he'd be the same when I was in an altered state.

It didn't help that it was one of my first mushroom experiences, either. I still had fun, but not as much as I would have had without him.

We're still friends, but not close ones.

Yeah, I bet that would do something to your respect factor about him!

I think that it would be so important to have someone with you that had had the experience before or at least had read a Hell of a lot about it and understood what it was like and what was going on with you at the time. I feel for your not being able to find someone like that.

It sucks that none of your buddies takes it more seriously. You would think that with most of them having had bad trips as you said, at least one of them would have changed his tune.

It sounds like you have it pretty well under control if it has to be a solo trip though.IMHO

Be safe and enjoy!!

It sounds like you have it covered. Just make sure to bring plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated.

You're lucky to have a forest nearby! I'm not so lucky. Have a good trip!

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow morning, and I'm just about to meditate and go to bed. I have everything packed and since the weather forcast says it's going to be hot, I'm going to hit the trails about 8 in the morning. Will post a trip report here when I get back tomorrow.

It would have been a perfect hike, except that I got attatcked by... Not sure exactly what kind of bug they were, something like wasps or hornets. Hurt like hell and really scared me at the time, but after I got back to civilization and took a shower everything's fine.

Next time I think I'll just stay here in my room.

Did you do the four grams and did you get anywhere near where you were headed or did the attack dominate the experience?

Yeah, I got attacked after the peak, which is a really good thing because I can't imagine how much worse it would have been. I was having a wondeful time beforehand, but afterwards all I could think about was how much I just wanted to get home and clean up.

OK, I got a question. And sorry Raiden333 for piggy-backing on your thread.

Let's say you knew somebody who has never tripped before.

Let's say he's 40 years old. And always wanted to take mushrooms, but never did because of his job (from which he recently retired)

Let's say he has acquired the knowledge and materials to cultivate mushrooms and is preparing to harvest his first hypothetical mushrooms any day now. (Golden Teachers, let's say)

Let's say this guy is in good physical and mental health.

Let's say he hikes in the mountains frequently, and wants to do a solo hike in familiar territory while tripping.

Let's say this person is sorta a loner, who feels completely comfortable being alone, and self-reliant.

would you say this person needs a sitter or a least a trip-partner?

I,d think his first time,s, need to be inside, but that just me.
My first trips date back to the dorm rooms of college, and I still remember how screwed up I used to get back then.
