i usually eat my shroomies fresh but this year i am going to need to save some for the winter season and i was told to use a desiccant, so... 1) after i use the fan for about 24-48 hours to get the moisture out, i put them in an air tight container with the desiccant... about how much of the desiccant do i need to put in the container, and for how long do the shrooms need to sit in there until they are cracker-dry? also, does the conatiner have to be 100% airtight (because most rubbermaids do not have an airtight seal.) any suggestions would bve greatly appreaciated as to the best kind of desiccant i should use and a good kind of container. thanks
I would reccomend a half inch to an inch of desiccant on the bottom of the container. It doesn't have to be air tight but it should have a good seal. Drying time will depend on how big the container is and how many mushrooms are in it. I would say roughly, with fan drying, they will be ready in 4 or 5 days.
