save half a cake maybe?
    #4390032 - 07/10/05 03:17 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

so i'm a first timer, and i did 10 jars, actually 5 jars, 2 drinking classes and 3 plastic cups, i dont know what i was thinking. but anyways, I posted not to long ago about my first mycelium growth on one of my jars, well, i handled that jar every single day and guess what happens, theres a contam in it, so fuck, i'm thinking of cutting the contam out and birthing the cake in a poor mans terrarium and see if i can get anything to grow, its on the other side of the cake, so i dont think it can hurt anything. but other than that, i have all of my cakes growing like a crazy mofo, so far so good, except for those two bastards. But 3 of them i can't even see, haha. they are in green and yellow plastic cups. but i'll birth them like the others i guess. tell me what you guys think.

it wasnt negative, it was friendly advice. i was referring to the way you are colonizing the cakes.

one of my cakes had a quarter sized spot of green mold wiped it away with a q-tip dipped in H202 then cut that part out with a knife then cut the cake into 4 pieces cleaned my PMP with hot water and alcohol put the chunks in it and now 2 days later the mycelium is recovering and no green mold

whats wrong with the way i'm colonizing my cakes. I dont have hundreds of dollars that i want to blow trying to grow mushrooms why waste all this money trying to get the top-notch shit for my first time, when i could get by using other things until i get the hang of it. That to me is smart. And it's as prepared as i want to be so eat it, thank you blast_420 some people around here can actually put a GOOD two cents worth in.

But its not a good 2 cents, since hes only had a few days to let the mold come back. Mold is incredibly hard to get rid of, since you cant see all of it..most molds are WHITE, just like cubie mycelium...but their spores are a different color..thats the color you see, the spores, not the mold...the mold is in much deeper then spores.

Dont get so pissed off either..the person wasnt being an ass about anything, you posted asking for feedback on a public board...that was the feedback he felt should be offered..just because you dont like it or agree with it doesnt me you have to be a prick to him..just ignore advice you dont like and wait for others to respond.

The only proplem I see is how are you going to tell when the ones in the plastic cups are done colonizing or if they are contamed with not being able to see them. Dude you don't need hundreds of dollars to buy a dozen half pint wide mouth canning jars. They go for 5 to 10 bucks depending where you get them. Meant to respond to blueboomers sorry.

The whole operation, including a syringe costs me less than 50 bucks and its working like a charm for my first time.

BTW, I didn't know only the mold spores were colored. Its good to know.
