1 out of 9 jars...
    #4380713 - 07/07/05 05:00 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Well i decided to start growing about a month and a half ago. Yet it wasnt untill about 5 days ago that things actually got started (took long time to get syringes).

The story is that i boiled 9 jars for around 50 minutes, let them cool overnight, then injected 4 of the jars with the equador strain, then 5 of the jars with the B+ strain. For the past 4 days my incubator has been kept at the low 80's and it wasnt untill today that i saw actual growth, though it wasnt the right kind.

ALL of my 4 equador jars have green mold in them, you can see the white myc growth underneath the green mold, but there is just as much green mold as their is white myc so i tossed those 4 jars. Next up are the B+ jars. They are doing the exact the opposite of the Equador jars, instead of it being a wild party of green mold and white myc, there's nothing in the b+ jars. Except 1 jar has white myc growth in it and just that (thank you!) The other 4 B+ jars have NOTHING in them. There are no signs of growth and its making me a little worried.

Well i kept 2 of the b+ jars that showed no signs of activity, and of course the one that was showing much myc activity. I threw out the 4 green mold jars and the 2 B+ jars on top of those because i really dont want to contaminate the rest of my jars.

So what happened? Is it just fate that 1 out of the 9 jars colonized? I was sterilized all the way through, i boiled the jars right, and i used exact measurements in making the verm/BRF/water mix.

So now i have 5 more jars in the pot boiling with 46 minutes left to go. I really dont know what strain to use though. The b+ showed signs of growth, but that was only 1 out of 5, the equador showed major signs of growth, but all 4 were hit with the green mold.

So what strain should i go for?

Equador?

B+?

Thanks for your time and patience guys and gals, it sucks only 1 out of the 9 jars i originally made worked out, but hey, you live and you learn.

I think you boiled them too long. I think boiling them more than 30 minutes may burn the BRF, killing some nutrients the mycelium needs. I boil for 20-25 minutes, tops. Usually bring it to a slow boil, then hit the timer for 20 minutes.

REcently, I experienced a grow with a 25 minute boil and the jars took exponentially longer to colonize within the same conditions as a previous 20 minute boil grow. By two weeks the 20 minute boils were colonized...2 weeks into the 25 minute boil run and they were only like 25%, if that.

I can't say for B+ or EQ, but I know huautla, mexi-cube, and south africans colonize pretty quickly compared to most strains.

4 days is not long enough, give it a cpl weeks, I'm sure more will come through for you.. And if all your EQ jars contam, and none of your B+ do, you might consider that the syringe had a nasty mold in it..

Boiling only 20 minutes? Only 50? Is that with a PC?

I'm on my first grow here, too, but I boiled my first set of jars for 60 minutes and my second set for 80 minutes. All of my jars colonized in a little less than 3 weeks, and have now finally pinned today.

Obviously, I have very little experience...but if you weren't using a PC, those green jars may not have been sterilized thuroughly.

Or bad syringe like kalix said.

Are you PC'ing? If you aren't PCing and you are boiling your shit in a pot, the problem is that you didn't boil long enough. Also if you stacked jars on top of one another.... ideally you want them all in contact with hot water if your not using a PC. You should cover and steam/boil them for at least 1h 15mins with a half pint jar. EQ's can be slow too in my experience, they take like 4-5 days to germinate for me usually as compared to 3 for my favorite Koh Samui Super Strain.

Next time also keep one or two jars of your batch out and don't innoc them. That way if you have contams you can tell if the vector of contamination was your inoculation technique/syringe or your cooking method.

well im having problems with B+ not growing as fast as other strains, but it's growing none the less. so have patience with your B+ jars...who knows they might just be colonizing from the inside out.
