Stoned Anime

I was wondering. Can anyone recomend any specifically good anime's that are entertaining when you are catching a nice pot-buzz. maybe just smoked a bowl or two. last night i saw this anime show called samurai champoo or something like that. it had amazing music, terrific special effects, a good story line, and not to mention at the end of the episode a whole acre of marijuana fields gets burned in a fire making everyone miles away stoned. i was loving that show last night! i still have the last words stuck in my head.
"I often wonder if he still remembers that faithful night, over thirty years ago. When we let our hair back, and ran freely through the vibrant smoke of electric purple haze."

Sweet man, I was tripping and caught that Samurai Champloo and it was just amazing. So was the Paranoia Agent that came on after it, I think that was better though cause I had The Mars Volta Frances the Mute playing, and sync up came straight from God himself!

My girlfriend and I got super stoned and watched this. I ate two coridin ccc's (for a cold, I know how intensely bad they can be) because I had the sniffles and I was so spaced out. Very awesome weed that we smoked to go with a very awesome movie. Thumbs up for sure.

Dominion Tank Police is a bit older, actually about 10 years old but it's definitely sweet. Venus Wars as well. I really liked those flicks when I saw them back in grade 7. lol
I used to watch a ton of anime. I thought Mermaid's Scar was pretty sweet, and the original Slayers saga is fucking awesome. This is getting me stoked on anime again. I need to go watch some myself.

Anime is fun to make fun of when your stoned. I watch those damn animes on adult swim every now and then, I find that show full metal alchemist damn funny, some of the most retarded dialogue I have ever seen . And I came across some other anime called footy cooties or some shit. Made absolutely no sense to me, which also made me laugh. IMHO anime is quite the escape for a majority of teenage geeks, anime is made to be somewat transporting, it follows a formula to make you kind of want to live a fantasy. Ill admit it, as much as I hate Japanese media (maybe people), Anime is quite fun to watch stoned.

Reign the Conqueror (amazing style) I was so amazed by this anime, i watched at least 3 times all the 12 episodes and enjoyed them each time and noticed new details
also check:
Aeon Flux(from the designer of Reign the Conqueror, weird sci fi, my all time favorite, also worth seeing several times)
Ninja scroll (great action) The Fist of The North Star (postapocalyptic action) Vampire Hunter D (style and action) Spirited Away (magical fairytale) Berserk (funny fantasy action)

Elfen Lied.
-------------------- when you're watching television the higher brain regions (like the midbrain and the neo-cortex) are shut down, and most activity shifts to the lower brain regions (like the limbic system). The right hemisphere is twice as active as the left, a neurological anomaly. The crossover from left to right releases a surge of the body?s natural opiates: endorphins, which include beta-endorphins and enkephalins. Endorphins are structurally identical to opium and its derivatives (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.).After just 30 seconds of watching television the brain begins to produce alpha waves, which indicates torpid (almost comatose) rates of activity.

I think it was both. The only specific plants I saw were pot plants but there could have been opium there too. Hash and opium, gotta love em! The owners of the field were all smoking opium but I think the main crop was marijuana, as the Samurai got high as a motherfucker when it was all smoking.

Definitely, the guy was psychedelic-high, not to say you cannot achieve somewhat similar with opium, but I think the dramatic color change and outer space look gave it away, the guy was higher than a kite on pot. I don't think it would be hard to grow opium and pot together at all, in fact, it is something I would be proud of doing. Such amazing products that leave you in a daze into next week!
Plus, earlier in the episode you can see the field of pot growing. The only opium I saw was in the pipes of the mysterious samurai who owned the field.

and you sir....well i just simply disagree with everything you said i counter your 6 year old post with a giant picture of mamimi that wasent ever even part of the anime...in fact it was from the manga...which came after the anime....
[pfffttt FMA uses a lot of chibi which is a style of japaneese animation that exadgerates features of the body for dramtic effect..

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are good for stoners...I used to be really into anime when I was little but sort of grew out of it. Still Cowboy Bebop is still a great series and is very tolerable than all the obscure anime shows.
Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are amazing movies, basically most anything by Hayao Miyazaki are magical.

I've just been getting back into anime recently. Watching Monster, which is a horror/mystery type thang that gets suspenseful as hell at times. Seems like it's gonna get philosophical later on too.
Also Samurai Champloo, which doesn't really have a story but has a ton of style and is fun to watch without having to get too involved. Gonna watch a bunch of episodes of this coming down from my next trip

Death Note is one of my favorites. Full Metal Alchemist is great, but find the original Japanese with subtitles, better dialog and voice acting. DearS is a good series as well. Ghost in a Shell is a good series. Howl's Moving Castle is good, as is Spirited Away.
And one of my favorite anime movies is Paprika.

Especially liked Limit Cycle, Baby Blue, and Dimension Bomb
Limit Cycle seems like my tripping mind state
Baby Blue was so full of human emotions and love in a way that makes me think of FLCL without the experimental aspect to it
I cant even comment on Dimension Bomb
Is it just me or does FLCL make anyone think Catcher in the Rye every time they see it(or vice versa)

Can't believe no one has mentioned Shin Chan. The used to play this on Adult Swim @ like 1 am. It is the Japanese equivilant of South Park. It's about the adventures of a young (like 8) horny boy always cussing, showing his weiner and hitting on women. I find the show hysterical.

they played shin chan on a kids channel in the UK called Fox Kids. recently i saw the adult swim version of it. it had a completely different dubbing track, still english but just different.

Downloaded all of genius party(and beyond) the other night, all I can say is that that is some powerful stuff; so like the animatrix but I guess it should be since a great deal of the animatrix shorts were produced by the same people Studio 4C(who, might I add, also produced tekkonkinkreet)
Is it just me or does FLCL make anyone think Catcher in the Rye every time they see it(or vice versa)

yeah genious party is nothing but a mind fuck of japaneese awesome. i couldn't really get into baby blue.. its probably because i was tripping.
my favorites were toujin kit, wanwa the dog and moon drive and the opening for genius party entitled "genius party"... anyway shin shan is ok but not something i would want to watch stoned...P.s. has anyone ever been this stressful at bringing back such a dead thread? goo job toad!

When I posted I was expecting to be yelled at by confused individual
Sadly, I saw genius party in a sober mindset; I would probably have liked a completely different set of shorts but those I named I found to be deep from what I could see
I love studio 4C, I cant wait to see what else they will come up with
I wish there were a better way to rate shows and movies based on the state of mind, that way I would know how to watch the show and not be disappointed if I watched it the wrong way

I enjoy action and psychological anime but I really don't understand the Japanese humor. It seems like its just silliness but always feel like I'm missing something. Anyone else feel like this and can someone try and explain it to me ha? Thanks. :P

are you talking about the rediculous animation liek here
its called Chibi animation and just like pretty much all anime (IMHO) its used to exaggerate actions and emotions while coming across as cute or funny. I like FLCL for the fact that its not too chibi but it is funny in its on way

I am a huge Anime fan, make AMV's etc. Golden Boy 'dubbed', Excel Saga 'dubbed', Claymore 'dubbed', Black Lagoon 'dubbed', all of those are good. First two are hilarious, the second two are action anime's but are awesome nonetheless.

Elfen Lied is excellent! I don't really think it's ideal for being reefed out, but maybe. Either way it's on my top five anime list, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is great to watch if you're stoned at night.

True, watching a little child with invisible vector arms decapitating her pre-pubescent classmates might not sit so well with someone blazed out of their minds.
Haven't seen Vampire D but how would you compare it to Hellsing?

Hahahaha it doesn't compare, Hellsing is a gory anime with a boring story, and an absurdly over powered Alucard. I love to edit with it and make trippy AMV's, but I don't like the series. He's so overpowered there is no point to it, at all..
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (the 2nd film in the series) is amazing. It has a good story, great characters, and amazing visuals (for when it was done). It is more a of pure gothic horror product, and less invincible, over powered satire. I highly recommend Vamp D: Bloodlust to all anime fans, and even non anime fans, because it's just that good.

I'll check that one out. And I agree, Alucard kind of makes it hard for any sort of real challenge to appear.

I just finished gungrave, i was very impressed. the ending is beautiful, had one of those moments through the credits, then i ending up staring at a blank screen in awe.

yeah, it was a little repetitive. still though, i can see why certain people enjoy it.
for any fan of akira (although this film isn't anime) i recommend tetsuo: the iron man. some people get it some people don't, definitely go out and do your research before buying it.

For a long time I knew Akira as that movie with the creepy wrinkled green senior citizen midget babies. Tetsuo's transformation scene is... disturbing. Ecstatic, but disturbing.

Gungrave is a great anime gem. I had the same reaction as you at the end, well composed story, and the opening theme is awesome.

Death Note was great to watch solely on Light's gradual but eventual progression into solipsistic insanity. You should definitely give the whole series a go.

I've seen Tetsuo: Iron Man, I wasn't not a fan of it. I thought the homosexual allegories, and pervasive ideology, where a bit much. From a purely artistic standpoint it's quite good. I just wasn't too into the agenda the film maker was pushing. The film is worth checking out if you're into abstract, or art-house film though
Might have to check out some of that Afro Samurai today

Outlaw star for sure, I love the opening sequences
Death Note Cowboy Bebop Yu Yu Hakusho Monster Code Geass
So much win Its just Hakusho, Did anyone else feel kinda disappointing by the ending; maybe monster too, the shows were great but the ending just wasnt epic like Death Note, Bebop, and Geass. Poor L, he was my favorite character; loved how they made him Gzus like, washing lights feet
Gungrave a Black Cat were the only ones that disappointed me; just didnt feel very engaging or unique to me for some reason. However Darker that Black(which I believe is made by the same dude who made black cat) is fucking epic.
Ichiban Ushiro No Daimou Ao No Excorcist Katekyo Hitman Reborn Ranma 1/2 Fist of The North Star Xenosaga Tenchi Muyo
Never seen any of these I did see the first episode of Fist of the North Star but it seemed like it was going to stay limited to action, plus I couldnt find a good torrent of it at the time. Which one should I watch first

He really loves to talk smack about how trashy everybody else is, like a kid playing halo on xbox; However, His zuit suit is the shit
I can only watch Afro Samurai when blazed, in that state its fuckin epic; when sober the fact that he is always silent kinda ruins it for me, I do like how his imaginary friend talks for him
The biggest discovery for me recently has been Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade, its alot like Ghost in the Shell with the internal politics
Also, saw Porco Rosso and Castle in the Sky a few weeks ago and was blown away; love ghibli

"I often wonder if he still remembers that faithful night, over thirty years ago. When we let our hair back, and ran freely through the vibrant smoke of electric purple haze."
Wow LOL i was gunna say samurai champloo but then I read on. samurai champloo is the best my fav completely original..., its tobad theres no more seasons, but then again its great to see a show not get annoying and boring and leave it fresh. i personally also like bleach and naruto when you ignore the fillers. but hey, im sure you can get into anything stoned. but you'll never see a show like samurai champloo they have a shroom episode too btw if im remembering correctly

Wait a minute, shall this be our new nonsense rompery; we have been needing a new pad Invisible Woe, plus everybody who comes would start talking anime which would only add to our repertoire. Only they might not get the rambling about crazy shit while chewing fruitloops backwards aspect of our conversation
Also, Sunset Mission, everytime I read your name I think Mission Hill only with more seaside tripping balls and less hot pants
yes, this seems to be a suitable place to be.. i think the onlookers would just have to sea the shell station and be on with the potato...there was a lot of potato in FLCL so maybe things will even the flow of winds?

I remember being blown away and getting emotion from Princess Mononoke.
Spirited Away is by the same studio/director but Princess Mononoke spoke more to me.

Which one should I watch first
To be honest I was pretty disappointed with how Yu Yu Hakusho ended as well. I mean, what the fuck? Yusuke just passes out for the entirety of the demon tournament and some oafish demon gets crowned king? Hiei never even settled his score with Yusuke, and neither did Kurama. It was pretty anti-climatic to say the least, but it doesn't stop it from being a great anime.
I personally really dug Gungrave (even though Brandon/Grave was a mostly silent protagonist) as well as Black Cat, towards the end of the series.
I'd suggest you watch Ichiban Ushiro No Daimou and Ao No Excorcist (fairly recent series) first, as they're both under 15 episodes (ANE is still ongoing). Katekyo Hitman Reborn is preeeeetty long, but with very little fillers. Ranma 1/2 you must be familiar with, Rumiko Takehashi (same lady who did Inuyasha) made it. I never finished Xenosaga or FotNS but both are very note-worthy.

Have seen Castle In The Sky but not the other 2. I haven't come across any anime I could compare to Ghost In The Shell (maaaaaybe Boogiepop Phantom... maybe). I'll follow suit in your discovery.
The most recent anime I saw was yesterday, me and my girlfriend were watching this anime movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki (same guy who did Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke), called Howl's Moving Castle. Honestly, it was actually really good, heart-warming, and made me laugh a few times, and it was very surreal (as expected of him). My girl commented that the guy is a genius, he has a grand imagination.
Another really good anime movie is "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time".

that's so weird. me and my fiance watched howls moving castle with our son yesterday and then finished it today. really crazy and amazing. did you watch it on netflix?
man, i seriously love anyting that's hayao miyazaki or Satoshi Kon...
i forgot to mention 3X3 eyes as well...
I'm just going to copy paste the detail of the show because i am lazy....
3x3 Eyes follows the adventures of Pai, the last remaining Sanjiyan Unkara (三只眼 吽迦羅, sometimes translated as triclops), and her new Wu (Chinese reading of 无; an immortal companion), Yakumo, as they desperately try to find a way to make Pai human so that she can forget her troubled past. Pai travelled to Tokyo searching for the artifact, but shortly after she arrived, a thief snatched her backpack and cane from her. A teenage lad, Yakumo, tackled the crook and managed to get the pack back for her, though the thief escaped with the cane. Yakumo took her to his work, where Pai was able to get cleaned up, and where she discovered that he was the son of Professor Fujii, an archaeologist she had met in Tibet four years prior. The Professor had been researching the legends of the Sanjiyans and had befriended her and offered to help her find the Ningen, only to fall ill and die. Pai had his last letter to his son in her backpack, which asked Yakumo to help Pai with her quest. Although he didn't believe his father's tales of Pai being a monster, he agreed to assist her.
Then basically he ends up dead, and she opens her third eye and swallows his soul. But he becomes this undead servant to her and he can become human again once she is. I remember liking the show alot. Lots of monsters, the guy dying a bunch but surviving.... pretty fun times...

Third eye opening and soul swallowing FTW
Bolded part reminds me of Dragonball Z, what with Goku dying 9000+ times and coming back to life 9000+ times.
As for Howl's Moving Castle, it was awesome! What was your favorite part? Calcifer (the little talking flame) was lulzy, especially when Sofie mistreated him. She played the old lady role a bit -too- well.

Do you realize that she was pretty much the cause behind all the fuck-upery in the movie? "HOWL'S HEART IS MINE -takes away Calcifer, entire castle collapses-"
And Howl was pretty shady too. Remember when he started summoning all the darkness in the beginning when his hair was a different color?
Calcifer: "He's summoning the forces of darkness... I've seen him do this once before, when a girl dumped him."

I WILL say that the English dub of Howl's Moving Castle was well done, but the Japanese version is still slightly better. The main reason I say this is because the ACTUAL words and the meanings the director is trying to get across is changed and when it comes to something especially like a Miyazaki movie the dialogue is extremely important.
Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro Ponyo Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Porco Rosso Castle in the Sky My Neighbor Totoro Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (may be his best...) Whisper of the Heart (love story but incredible anime movie) Kiki's Delivery Service
Not much action to the majority of his movies but still the best ones out there to be honest. Especially in subtitles.

I agree, the original emotion they tried to convey does get lost in translation.
He did a Lupin The Third movie!? That must be interesting.
I've seen Ponyo before! And I vaguely remember it but I recall Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind being a good movie, albeit pretty old-school. I wasn't aware Miyazaki did that one.
I'll keep this list in mind.

I always associate Boogiepop Phantom with Serial Experiments Lain as they are so surreal, Ghost in the Shell has alot in common with Cowboy Bebop(violent politics intermingled with police standoffs)
Grizvok is right, watch all of Miyazaki's stuff, some of the other studio ghibli stuff is worth watching as well(like Grave of the Fireflies, just be warned, its very depressing); I dont mind dubbed miyazaki
Tell me you have seen Nausicaa of the valley of the wind and Ponyo
I dont find many others who have seen The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I found out about it through wikipedia since it won some animation of the year award or something
You guys were right, Vampire D bloodlust was truly epic, I was skeptical as I havent found any other good anime about vampires; the ending was bittersweet but touching; someone recommended I watch Wicked City so I just downloaded that
Anybody else ever seen Now and Then, Here and There; It goes so deep thinking back over it, starts slow though, rather satirical of both War and Time

Studio Ghibli rocks!!! Couldn't even pick my favorite one, they're all so captivating.
Completely unrelated, and not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but I rekon AFRO SAMURAI, both the first season and the movie, is off the chain!!! Samuel L. Jackson. BADASS ANIME!

Will have to, I saw the beginning of soul eater but just lost track of everything after my computer crashed in a lightning storm; the whole story isnt just them fighting to regain all the souls they lost is it and finally a witch soul is it, that would make for a boring story
I saw Castle in the sky once, I was stoned; it felt incredibly slow but that was probably just me, kinda boring the way shes an old lady for the vast majority of the film
According to that list, the only two I havent seen by Miyazaki are Whispers of the Heart and the Lupin the third movie, If I remember correctly he did a lot more than that for Lupin the third; a number of episodes and such, I could be wrong tho, or wikipedia could, or my memory might be shaking hands with fate to fuck me over
This threads got some good info, so much to do: anime to watch, battlefield 3 beta to play(and soon the actual game), medical books to read, documentaries to pour over, songs to download and organize, newgrounds audio to screen, and novels to read. Got my hands full with some good stuff

I don't like Mecha's, so not into Gurren Lagan, I did enjoy Evangelion somewhat though.
Currently i'm trying to get through Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Wicked City is some borderline Hentai, but it's ok. Claymore is a fantastic Anime, and awesome while tripping, also have to say Kurokami is amazing, it's a must watch if you haven't seen it yet.
I am sure everyone here has already seen the unrivaled awesomeness that is Highschool of the Dead That anime is beyond awesome on reefer or even sober!!

Well it's an Echhi anime...I always shake my head when people comment about "fan service" in Echhi. That's like complaining about seeing nudity in porno.

first off yeah, the japaneese art scene can get a little pornographic.. but so can everything lol!
and to cannabis works i would just search Cannabis Works Tanaka Tatsuyuki torrent untill you found a sutible one.. i found a torrent but i dont feel comfortable linking it here because im not sure if its safe..
and im a huge fan of art, and a huge fan of anime.. i didnt even know the two came together untill i saw genius party and then stubled across Cannabis works

And those Cannabis Works illustrations are definitely sick.

As for last night, holy shit. I took about 800mg DXM for the first time in about more than 2 years and mixed it with 3g of strong mushies lemon tekked and watched the Ghost In The Shell movie during the come-up/peak...
Perfect fucking anime movie to trip to. That movie is insane!
DXM is so weird, thats why I love it
I just want to go fuck up an abandoned building on DXM
Ghost in the Shell is so fucking amazing, Iv never seen it trippin and I cant really imagine what it would be like since it goes so deep. Tell me how you like N&T,H&T as well as Jin Roh; word of warning, dont watch either while tripping it will scare you, stoned is acceptable.

psilocybinjunkie said: I don't like Mecha's, so not into Gurren Lagan, I did enjoy Evangelion somewhat though.
Will check out Claymore and Kurokami soon. Highschool OTD was indeed amazing stoned but sober it had such a weak plot, my love of zombies only flourishes when Im stoned; to the extent that I love that show.
I know its not anime but its an abstract art form, anyone ever seen any Wallace and Gromit? I love the clay like british animation along with Gromits personality and communication style

Mononoke (モののけ):
(not to be confused with Princess Mononoke)
Uses Japanese print block art. Amazing visuals and trippy plot. Insane allegorical references and symbolism if you really want to get into it. I actually have a whole annotated breakdown of the show saved somewhere explaining the symbolism and deeper meaning in each episode.

Kaiba (かいば):
Couldn't find a screenshot that does this anime justice. It has unmatched artistic visuals unlike any anime I've seen and trippy thought provoking plot to go with it. It's a short series about a world where our memories can be swapped into other bodies and are actually traded and collected by the rich. The same goes for the bodies that the memories were once attached to. Just watch it!

Mushishi (蟲師):
I know this one will be loved by any shroomerite here. In this anime Mushishi are people who study a weird supernatural living organism called mushi that can only be seen by a select few. The mushishi are spiritual guides/healers that are able to understand the mushi and cure the negative that some fo them have on people, crops, and nature. It reminds of the shroomery because mushi are supposed to be like a supernatural, evolved form of fungi that are living and breathing and complex in their behavior.

Awwwww yeah, some really interesting concepts are contained within Mushishi; It like studying a doctor from another dimension. I also like how it isnt one linear story but rather the wanderings of a guy who gives a shit. Also, Mushi sounds cool
Never seen Kaiba or Mononoke; do recognize Darker than Black and Elfen Lied in that last list, both good shows
Also, I dig the L avatar

Mononoke is the next logical anime to watch after Mushishi. Kaiba is also worth watching for the crazy visuals and plot.

Cowboy Bebop.
It's made by the same people who made Samurai Champloo, and is waaaay better IMO. Fantastic soundtrack, and there's an episode where the main characters trip on shrooms. I love smoking and watching it.
And definitely, DEFINITELY watch FLCL. That show was like drugs to me before I ever tried drugs.

You guys that are into intense battles and great animation with a classic but tweaked storyline then for sure check out Basilisk.
Also Sword of the Stranger is a great action one as well but more heartwarming at the same time. Basilisk is straight up brutal.
Also guys I'm a pretty new toker and wondering how you guys watch anime or any tv or movies stoned? I can't comprehend whats happening very well and put the pieces together. Then I can't even remember it the next day either. I'm not getting that high too.

It gets better with tolerance. But it's kind of a bonus. You can go back and watch whole movies or series that you've already seen and it's almost like seeing it for the first time again

the first season was enjoyable but don't watch anything beyond if you do see it. overall it relies heavily on stock animation probably due to being a low budget production which can be kind of annoying. it's one fo those animes that really only starts getting good near the end of the end of the series.

2 more things that seem to be worth a mention
Requiem for the Phantom (AKA The Phantom of Inferno)- a series about psychological experimentation to create the perfect assassin (who is to be known as Phantom) The twists and turns of the assassins free will and past coming into play. The original pair work for an organization bent on secretly infiltrating, controlling, and ultimately uniting different mob or otherwise underworld organizations. The puppets getting tossed around as the internal power struggles rage around them; things get mixed up many times, sentimental and deep
Steam Boy- Seems like something Miyazaki would create, experimental 1800s technology coupled with negative perspectives on war

Wise Toad, I believe it was you who recommended Now And Then, Here And There earlier in the thread? Well, I just finished watching the series and let me just say wow. It touches on some really morally-heavy topics, and is a really captivating story. It's one of the most emotionally powerful shows I've sat through, and while it started off as a lighthearted series it was the farthest thing from it. Really excellent rec, 10/10!
It is also great to get stoned to.
Time for Mushi-Shi now.

Is anybody watching any animes out of the current fall line-up?
You can watch them all in pretty decent quality here: http://www.niconico.com/anime
(As well as anime from past seasons for that matter)
I've watched a few episodes of Guilty Crown, Last Exile, and Future Diary so far and I've enjoyed them all so far. They're all a wee-bit cliched but if you watch enough anime everything is a take-off of a take-off. That being said, I think I enjoy Future Diary the most so far in terms of plot and I think it's a tie between Future Diary and Last Exile in terms of animation. Guilty Crown is entertaining too but it's more of the classic sci-fantasy, smash-'em up mecha-action anime.

There was a bunch I missed from the summer season that I have to catch up on. I never saw Blood-C so I don't know what it's like, but I do know in general that sometimes you have to stick with a show for a few episodes before it really picks up and starts getting good. Then again, I wouldn't want to waste my time watching shows that suck and aren't going to get any better.

I checked out it's opening, I will give it a try. By the way I'm not going for fight scenes much more for the philosophical monoluges about their ghosts. Most of my friends hate ghost in the shell, but I just love watching them thinking about their ghosts.

Anyone here see the anime Redline, completely psychedelic eye candy. The anime itself has amazing artwork, and it's a fantastic watch. I would probably slap it down with a 9/10.
Think i'll make an AMV with it, will be good to view while

I too will give Redline a looksie when I can. For the time being I'm being completely sucked in by Mushi-Shi. My god, what a reality-bending anime it is. Really interesting phenomenon the mushi cause to happen, almost like they sustain reality itself (that Pillow Pathway episode especially).

I love Mushi-Shi! The manga was great too! There is a live action film by the same director as Akira that I've heard is long but pretty good.
I forgot if someone mentioned Eden of the East already. It's fairly new but one of my favorite animes and there are two movies out for it now too!
I could only find the trailer in Japanese, but there are great English Dubs for it.

I watched Serial Experiments Lain for the second time a few weeks ago and it took me for such an introspective mind fuck again, one of those things that you can get new understandings and interpretations out of with every subsequent viewing
Quote:
sunset_mission said: Wise Toad, I believe it was you who recommended Now And Then, Here And There earlier in the thread? Well, I just finished watching the series and let me just say wow. It touches on some really morally-heavy topics, and is a really captivating story. It's one of the most emotionally powerful shows I've sat through, and while it started off as a lighthearted series it was the farthest thing from it. Really excellent rec, 10/10!
It is also great to get stoned to.
Time for Mushi-Shi now.
N&T, H&T started off slow but reached such beautiful peaks; this is the kinda stuff we should be showing kids in school, war isnt pretty or romantic
"And War, War Never Changes" -Fallout 3
I really liked how the name of the show, the quote at the beginning, and Lala-Ru's personality tied into one another; at least I interpreted it that way
Sunset, did you get around to Jin Roh? If you cant find it Ill post a torrent download link if your up on that kinda thing
I could never get into Gantz, Watched through the end but still didnt see anything truly unique
Same with Last Exile, LE had some amazing animation for sure but the story felt like it was putting on airs or something; it just failed to deliver
my to watch list based on this thread: Freezing Red Line Eden of the East
Here are the few worthwhile movies/series' of all those iv sorted through recently
Macross Plus(short series): futuristic flight coupled with technology, worth saving but wasnt the most engaging
Perfect Blue(movie): nonstop reality twister, a psychological thriller that will make you psychotic
Kino's Journey(series): A wanderer travels from one surreal land to another, most countries will seem bizarre to us but the residents see these rules as all there is; wonder how it relates to us. KJ explores some of the most interesting concepts Iv come across and is so beautifully thought out, definitely a keeper. Sunset, if you liked Mushishi you'll love this one
Metropolis(movie): Political action in a robotic world; has some unique animation that perfectly captures the retro futuristic style
Mezzo Forte(movie): Small agency Vs mob using technology, lots of interesting twists and turns; depending on the version you download it may have some hentai elements so plan based on your preferences, those scenes are not necessary for the plot
Renaissance(movie): Black and White detective story dealing with corporate corruption of science and civilization; actually dont know if its anime, might be french
The Sky Crawlers(movie): Odd and unique, just the way I like it; rather sad in its dealing with immortality and repetition. Its the perfect movie to follow Renaissance
Boogiepop Phantom Kinda Like Serial Experiments Lain
Most of those movies can be found in The Anime Super Pack check out the dude who uploaded that as he has a second super pack of these; Im only part way through the first one

The sequel to that show is airing right now as part of the fall line-up. I watched the first two episodes and it seems alright but I haven't watched the original series so I'm missing some major plot gaps. Do you not recommend watching it?

They have a second season, is it any good thus far?
I personally found nothing interesting in it and wouldnt watch it again, it was too slow with no real twists. I thought it was building up to something big but nothing ever came of it.
Thats just me though, if you like the new one then check out the old just dont expect too much

THe animation is pretty cool but I'm not too familiar with the story having not seen the first season. Most people seem to be totally stoked on it though, but I think they really liked the first one as well. It has a lot to do with the fact that it is a steampunk anime. That seems to be a really popular with people nowadays, especially with cosplayers and the like.

ive never had the chance to read any manga.. my firend has some but i dont know if he has even gone threw them lol i really want to buy some tho..
and as far as paprika goes ive out the damn movie on like 4 times and each time have been too messed up and have missed most of it.. i know the plot and pretty much how the movie works out so im pretty sure i ruined it for myself but im still going to watch it for the trippy aspect
my friends and i watched trigun just recently, i had seen most of it before but not the whole thing, it really is a good anime to smoke out to.

I love abstract anime because I can watch it again and again while fucked up and never remember the plot
Without some seriously logical, set in stone plot it becomes dreamlike; and just like a dream is forgotten
Maybe the stoned state is close enough to the dream state or far enough away from the sober state to forget it all
The only manga I ever read was naruto back like 6 years ago, all I remember is that the pages read backwards; after that I stopped liking anime till I got into drugs, cept for Cowboy Bebop, Iv always loved that show

Has superjail been said? That show is one psychedelically mind-fuckery show, that does make some sense, and is incredibly violent but in a comedic way, an awesome show and highly recommended.
It references tim leary and has a few psychedelic trips in the 2 seasons it has so far, great show!

You really grow to love the characters after a while. I still have a fuzzy feeling when thinking about it, and it's been many many years since I watched it.

GTO is most definitely worth watching, one of the best anime's out there!! Hellsing isn't very good, the story is awful, and Alucard is so overpowered there is no point. Hellsinf is fun to edit, but watching it isn't very enjoyable. Episode 7 was the best one and it was all about Saras..

Check out the brand new anime: Future Diary. I made a few posts about it before, but that was only after seeing an episode or so. Now that it's well in to the season, I have to say it's an extremely awesome show and one of my favorite all time animes. I even got my friend who's not that to anime totally addicted to it.
You can watch the whole season here: http://www.niconico.com/anime
Or download it here: http://gotwoot-subs.net/?category_name=mirai-nikki

My thoughts exactly, there was no struggle just overkill and security; like a totalitarian government
What do you mean by fun to edit, with a video editor you mean? In what way?
I think I stopped watching at episode 6 after the manor had been raided; the only vampire shit I like is Vampire D Bloodlust
I wonder what it would be like watching my favorite stoner anime(Cat Soup) while sober and my favorite sober anime movie(Jin Roh: the wolf brigade) while stoned; of course this has little meaning right now as im rather drunk, but its an experiment for when I have a lot of time to kill
Of course I dont know if I can go through with it, watching cat soup sober that is, I dont want to remember the show cause then It wouldnt be nearly as fun watching it; it would be like playing one of my N64 games sober(aside from super smash bros) cause I would then know the story and have to avoid it for many years till I have no fucking clue what its about(which Im currently doing with Majoras Mask)
Future Diary you say, I do like the future, is the season complete; want to wait till it is to startQuote:

unfortunately mirai nikki is going to be the only good anime for a while. i don't know if you have seen the winter line-up yet, but it's total crap:
nichijou is a great 'slice of life' anime from last season though, but it really only appeals to certain type of crowd.

Glad to see Lord Canti is back Woe

Im talking about origins spirits of the past. i thought i had mentioned it before here on this thread if not then damn... get to that shit.
and yes fooly cooly is VERY strange. it can seem like there is no storyline almost. itl go off on a tangent and let you get lost in the nonsense and then in an instant be back on the main storyline. And the characters will adress the audience a few times.. a very confusing anime. after a few times of watching it the main storyline becomes obvious and the little stories like with mamimi and tasku and the relationship between ninamori and naota which are almost completely unspoken, they become obvious after you get to observe the behavior and implications of the characters.. that anime had so much shit going on in it all at once, its so complex that when you first watch it it just seems like the story writers were just blazing massive amounts of chronic and laughing about the BS they were writing but in all reality it is a TOP notch VERY well written masterpiece IMO
edit: im about to watch Lupin the third the castle of cagliostro see how this goes

I never finished Lupin sadly, friends decided they would rather watch tales from earthsea.. which was ok but nothing really special.. it was a studio gihibli film done by Goro miyazaki so obviously it wasent terrible but meh woulda rather watched lupin

So ive stopped afro samurai long enough to say "jeese this is the third time ive watched this one through" and that i recommend any person with a dark demeanor to watch this anime while high.. it is a little intense, rather cold blooded, and original in the sense that it is a cross between western anime and eastern culture a bit like samurai champloo but bit more brutal

If FLCL had been something like 25 episodes with content equal or better to those six I would watch it every day
Why are all the good ones so short
Hey, when is that Future Diary supposed to conclude? Summer? Im going to wait for it to finish and watch the whole thing during a summer afternoon binge, it has to be raining though and possibly Wednesday

idk but it seems like the more episodes there are the more criticizm there is. like bleach.. that is an alright anime IMO but the vast ammount of episodes is off putting as well as annoying. in my opinion they were just trying to make more money by adding more characters to appeal to more people as well as adding more storyline (which both the chars and storyline i belive come from the manga?) i mean its well dont but damn.. im not going to watch it.
FLCL is a jam packed anime, like a huge shot of MDMA or something its amazing then its gone... i have thought alot about weather i would like more episodes of FLCL or not and after a while i decided that more would just make it more mainstream if anything because it is that good much like bleach.. idk maybe im just being lame

the only ones Iv seen pull off a lot of episodes while still being very engaging are Code Geass and Ghost in the Shell, maybe higurashi but it wasnt very engaging toward the end
I hate how so many of these get very lighthearted at the end and don't finish strong; Cowboy Bebop on the other hand

this is what got me into anime; sadly I have seen very few drug references since Note all the other episodes of cowboy bebop with references: the one where they go to teh space colony(I think it was called Bohemian Rhapsody) and the place is filled with stoners; not to mention that at the end the villain calms down and becomes a good guy after smoking a fat blunt. The episode with Andy in it(Coboy Funk being the episode) Jet poses as a stoner with a pot leaf on his shirt to get into a dress club. In pierrot le fou during the roller coaster fight planet saturn is smoking a pip. In one scene the three old dudes are reminiscing about their agricultural planting days and one says "you were always planting seeds of a different kind"

It's Revy from Black Lagoon and it's an amazing anime, my #1 fav, highly recommended. You have to watch the English dub, the creators agree the English voice cast is vastly superior to the original Japanese language one

Well the main cast of Black Lagoon are Americans so it's absurd that they'd only speak Japanese Comes off way better with American characters speaking their own language.

English DUBS
Anime and foreign films in general should always be watched in their original language.

Like the ending of Yuyu Hakusho, its depressing in that its so happy
Is it still worth watching?
I want an anime that is just a dream, complete disconnected nonsense that everybody will love while fucked up and at the same time never remember There area already many kind of like that but I want it more pure and nonsensical, to the point where you know these writers were just having one crazy drug fueled orgy as they wrote this

Cencoroll:
It's only 30 minutes long, but it's awesome and it was made by only one guy. It's delightfully weird and trippy. The trailer is horrible and doesn't do it justice but trust me you'll love it.
If you want a full series that's like that instead of just an OVA, then I still recommend Kaiba if you haven't seen it yet. The story is a bit more involved but the animation is great. The plot is Matrix-esque totalitarian scenario. It's a short but great series.

This has probably been posted before but I fucken love One Piece. It starts out slow but the later episodes are pretty kickass. I like it alot because the concept behind it is cool and everyone's stories are intertwined. I've watched pretty much all 533 episodes while I'm stoned. I will say tho, that I'm not very into anime. One piece is the only show I've really watched habitually so I don't know what else is out there...

Cencoroll is awesome, it feels to me like both FLCL and Gantz; FLCL cause of the animation and the girl character and Gantz because of the game setting up individuals against one another
The dude is making a second one, check it out http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-09-02/cencoroll-2-production-green-lit
Hopefully with this second one he will get some funding and maybe a team, although, I don't know if it would work out as a full series considering that the OVA wasn't written in preparation for one

either way it is interesting [: since you think it reminiscent of fooly cooly then i think it is at least worth the time of consideration...
