Oh Mi Dios! I think I like Jam Bands (your help needed)

Well after nearly shying away from jam bands and looking down on them, I think I've become one of the converted. After listening to some of Comets on Fire's longer pieces and some of the Mars Volta's live jam stuff, I think I'm ready to dive into this genre and perhaps respect it and claim to like it.
What I would like from you, the kind members of the shroomery, a group of people who seem to know their jam bands and be really into them. What I would like is for you to recommend some bands and specifically songs to check out. I really like the psychadelic longer harder songs. Any direction you guys can point me in on this subject would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sound Tribe Sector 9
I love the album "Seasons 01"... they are awesome live, but I don't know any good sets to download.
But I chose The Mars Volta over seeing them at Bonnaroo, and didn't regret it.

Hay dios mio = there are/is my god(s). I've never heard just "dio" in Spanish, and I thought I once heard someone say that it is singular as well as plural for "God" but I have no idea.
Ai = OH

well, every jazz group can be called a jam band. jamming is what jazz is all about.
if you get more technical, i suppose you can say jam bands have jams that are riff based. that is, there's less harmonic movement, more repeated themes, and is quite modal.
or you can think about jams like led zep style, which are sort of pre-composed.
blah blah, i'm ranting.

I second the Blandbladen recommendation. Especially the song Dimland. Download it from their site. www.blandbladen.tk
Also, find some live Ozric Tentacles stuff. How about Allman Bros?
Cheers.

I second medeski martin & wood, "combustication" and "End of the world party (Just in Case) are their best, live is incomparable though.
Soulive is EXCELLENT jam/funk/jazz "next" is their best Cd
John Scofield is the best studio artist out there right now IMO. top albums "A Go-Go" "Up all night" "Encore"(<=Straight Jazz) and "That's what I say"
And of course, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Don't even know where to begin recommending albums there. Get em all. (ok fine, especially "Little Worlds")

i've got a couple to suggest:
someone already mentioned sound tribe sector 9 (sts9). their albums are good, but they completely have blown me away everytime i have seen them live. definetely check them out sometime if you get a chance
new monsoon - a good variety of styles and flavors particle - more "funktronic", heavy on the guitar if you like that kinda thing yonder mountain string band & railroad earth - 2 good bluegrass bands jazz mandolin project - more of a "jazzy" feel to the band
