Ozone generatos/Static removers
    #4387265 - 07/09/05 06:08 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Does this device have any practical application in cultivation? It generates ozone, and neutralizes static...

Yes it does.

I have one...it works great.

You can pick one up off Ebay for much less...mine was $30.00 including shipping.

Should it be used in conjuction with other filters?

Err... I guess my question is... What does it work great for.
It doesnt have a collection grid like those horrible "ionic breezes" so when the ozoneis generated does it just cause the particles to to drop to the ground?

I am guessing it is rated to the same .05 micron efficiency.

Or should it be run, at only certain times...
Thanks

Right, well I just am wondering what they do "scientifically speaking"

I know that

'activated oxygen is created when 3 free oxygen atoms combine together to create a high-powered super-charged oxidizing molecule. It attacks undesirable contaminants such as bacteria, molds, odors, etc., by changing their chemical and physical properties leaving only Oxygen (O2) and the oxidized substance.'

So this means all my particles will fall to the ground...because there is no collection grid, and I should  vacuum/mop a lot? :stoned:

I always see the "cleanig types" as emitting negative ions of O2. Then again  I dont really know.. hence all my questions

I should still shut something like this off when doing clean work though right, because its stirring up air?

the ozone generator uses a UV bulb and a fan to blow air over it the UV bulb creates O3 which is pumped into the room killing airborne Bactria the UV bulb also destroys your cornea and will make you go blind in just a few seconds if you look at it the ozone rate it puts out is 7.2-mg/hr

Please remeber that ozone is an extreamly toxic pollutant and should only be used in vented areas, preferably inside the exhaust ducting itself if possible in pot growing situations. Seeing as shrooms dont require such venting i guess you guys are just thinking of running an O3 generator inside an enclosed space. Don't that shit will fuck you up.

Hrm, well I was looking for some specifics (henced posted in advanced) and or technical informationon the model I posted, which I dont even think (could be wrong) that it has a UV bulb in it.. Agar, Road, you guys said you liked yours... maybe you could shine some light on it for me, about how you use it. Doe you run it 24/7 or just for a few hours before you work.

I got a can of "air fresh" at walmart for $2 that makes my mushroom area smell like right after it rains too.
According to the EPA, Ozone is the result of auto exhaust combined with NOx (oxides of nitrogen) in strong UV light. (sounds delightful) The problem with this theory is the residual gasses left by the process of making ozone are nasty. So I suppose, by the lititure from UVOnair, if you have a car running in your room, this thing will work great. With the strong UV, on the other hand, it will kill any beasties which fall under it's gaze as the air passes through. (cool!) It does not have the electro static collector like the Ionic Breeze. The breeze does not make Ozone, but strips most of the particals from the air, including beasties, just like the ones used in giant industrial smoke stacks. The units talked about in this thread will give you a zone of sterial air to work in, much like a ulpa filter, but you can get a ulpa filter for under 60 bucks, complete with fan. The UV, according to the mfg. recomendations, will not make you instantly blind (beating off does that!) but will damage the eye after a period of time (which is not very long) and MILD exposure can cause skin cancer. You could make one with a meat locker light, a fan, and a box to keep the light in. Ya want a light with the strong type of UV, I can't remember if it type A or C, I think it is C. As a side of all this, we did mushroom experiments like cloning tissue, in our testing lab, where several hundred computer monitors screens strip dirt from the air 24/7 with hardly ever a contaminate, but at my house, contams just grab the bottle out of my hands and puke in it and giggle! (A fan blowing on an old 15 inch monitor works about as good as an Ionic breeze?) Which is not bad. Ya got to have something.

there is no bulb in the Simco.

I run it for about 30 minutes in the room I'm gonna work in.

It knocks down all the particles in the air...so you have to wipe down the room after using the unit.

I use bleachy water on surface areas.
