What are the best substrates to use when casing? Any that increase potency or size?

~peace and thanks~

Horse (or other equine) poo being best, field collected and well aged.

If your inevitably going to spawn to poo, then how much of a difference does grain make compared to fresh ground brown rice? Just curious.

What exactly do you think brown rice is?

Duh! I guess your right. So why does everyone go through the trouble of preparing WBS, rye, ect... when you can just use brown rice?

Have you ever cooked rice on the stove?

It has a tendency to stick together...making a huge clump.

Rye and WBS doesn't stick together like rice does.

So that's why it colonizes so fast, because it stays "airy" through out the whole process. As opposed to BRF cakes that become sticky. If this is the case then it doesn't have any effect on potency or size, right?

BRF/Verm cakes are airy...the Verm keeps the BRF from being gummy.

Another point taken. So I guess my question is, how much better in nutes are rye, or WBS.

There is a link posted from a health food site somewhere in here...

that shows a chart of all the nutes of certain grains.

I can't seem to find it right now...maybe someone else has the link.

sorry!~

Whole brown rice is pretty good...rye is very very good, WBS and millet are also good. Flours seem to perform worse all around, yield and potency wise. Not always, but that seems to be the general concensus with people who do both. Flours are also a pain in the firggen ass, cant do quarts, cant shake, thats why they take so long compared to whole grains. Plus it is fluffier and lighter then PF mix.

Of course when spawning to poo, none of that or nutes matter. All that really matters is how many inoculation points you can break it up into. Thats why WBS is great, lots of tiny kernals. Of course you can take a cheese grater to your cakes and that would work great too.

so instead of breaking it up with a fork i can just grate my cake?? that wont kill the mycelium at all?? cause i know if you handle a cake too roughly it will bruise(which is death right).

No.

Wrong. When you get a bruise you arent dead, neither are your cells that are bruised.

hmmmm...... so those cells that bruise blue, they can make a full recovery? im asking because i threw a cake out not too long ago becausei thought it was half dead., i dropped it a couple feet on accident(slippery bastards) and it bruised a really dark blue almost black.

"recovery"? The bruises wont go away, but the cake will live on, including the blue parts, just fine. Fruits will form on blued mycelium too. I've flipped casings from 6 feet up, over onto the ground, put it all back together and its fine, as long as nothing contamed.
