san pedro question
    #4386302 - 07/09/05 08:17 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

hi guys i have a very large san pedro which i left alone for many weeks (no watering and no care at all:-( ).
now its bottom is very black but all the other side up is ok.
1)do you think it is ok to eat and trip or it could have an inside contamination or something?
2)if i cut it from the pot... can i put it in the fridge for a week and then prepare it to trip?

thank you

The blackening of a calous is a pretty normal thing, nothing at all to worry about. Bad rot goes inside pretty fast, and becomes soft and squishy, but outer blackness is a common cactus thing...

I'm not sure if the blackening is on a calous. From what i understand from Hamurabi's post, the blackening is in the base of a potted cactus - which doesn't sound good to me.

But the fact is that it would be a lot more prone to rotting while it was being watered and ferted. There should be no reason for a non-watered cactus to rot

Is the blackness squishy? Could you show us a pic?

Anyways, if you don't want to grow it anymore, i suppose the green healthy part is safe to consume.
