Seems like having just state governments would be better
    #4384603 - 07/08/05 06:44 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

The idea that a federal government that is located in one state and has SO much power over laws that affect everyone, with "representatives" that get very little work done and are generally unheard of and incommunicato, seems absurd. State governments ONLY. That seems like it would be so much easier. Federal government seems like an outdated concept.

Articles of Confederation, all day.

I think we would be MUCH better off w/ smaller state governments. And that is how it was intended. But the civil war ended that. I still believe that was the main reason for the civil war was to take power away from individual states. Slavery was a 2ndry reason. But i'm glad it's gone nonetheless.

You're quite correct that slavery wasn't the primary reason. Lincoln's purpose was to preserve the union. And people to this day argue whether or not that reason was sufficient.
