Water Content - Bags/Jars
    #4382158 - 07/08/05 01:55 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

When doing Either....

I've noticed that if you take them out of the PC prematurely (1-4hours)....They tend to dry out...I think it's - pressure sucking air in....Pretty sure that's what causes it...

But anyways...My Question was....

What if you took the Bag/Jar out and put it in something like a pot and put the top on?....That way it's have a humid environment and wouldn't suck in "dry air"...

Reason I ask is because I've got 25lbs of WBS to do for me and a friend....And waiting 4-6 hours (or overnight) will make this take several days lol...

Trying to knock it all out today and tomorrow.

I've already got one bag in a pot (took out of PC like 5 mintues after it was cooked fer 2hs)....

Just was fishing for opinions...I might be lacking common sense somewhere...heh

Tnkx.

Thanks man.  That answers some questions I had about some of my jars.

But anyway, Yea... waiting sux huh.  I think that sounds like it will work to me.  Maybe even spray the inside of the container you are storing them in with some sterile water to help keep the humidity up while the temp is coming down.

hmmm. :sunny: :psychsplit:

What's up Gnostic ?

I always take mine out as soon as possible and have never had any problems. Lucky I guess. Can you visibly see they have dried out ? Maybe I'm just not looking. Haven't had any problems with colonizing though.

And you're not lacking common sense somewhere, you're lacking it EVERYWHERE,lol. Peace.

I wonder if mine don't do it because of the high humidity where I live ?

My grains always look drier after cooling down, it is normal and mentioned in a few of the FAQ guides. I know it is not losing moisture though because when I weigh them straight after heating, and a few days later the weight is the same. I think the moisture is just sucked back into the grains. If your grains are ending up too dry, just add more water to begin with or simmer longer.

I prefer mine a bit dry since I can then add lots of LC.
