So I've got this situation right...
    #4381499 - 07/07/05 08:32 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I have a bunch of half pint jars (with holes in the tops) and I want to do another grow. I think rye or another heavy grain will do the job nicely. The grow guides say to use full pint or quart jars. I want to be able to shake them up to speed up inoculation. BRF just doesn't do it for me. My last crop with that turned out real shitty (but not a single contam, surprisingly). Is it absolutely necessary to use these larger jars?

If you really want to make it worth your time, then yes it's necessary to use larger jars. Besides, it can be really difficult to shake WBS in pint jars. It's possible, just not much fun or effective.

Go big with quart jars, you won't regret it. Always get more bang for your effort if you have the opportunity.

No, but you'll find out that you want to use them because half pints dont give you enough. If you are going to do a straight grain casing you need to remember to have a good substrate depth. I reccomend at least 3 inches. Say your filling a tray thats 6"x6"x4"high. that would probably take atleast 4 or 5 1/2 pints... as opposed to 2 or 3 pints, or 1 quart. make sure you have a PC, and i reccomend tryign WBS.

my plan was to use rye. I have around 10 cc left in my syringe. After they inoculate, I am going to put them in the ground or possibly (don't have any idea if this will work) plant them in large pots and put them on my roof next to a tree.

if your trying an outdoor grow id reccomend looking into bulk substrate... like H poo.. and you can make some LCs and have unlimited amount of innoculant.

happy trails and GL to ya

yeah, but doesn't that take a lot of time. As any student knows the summer is only so long. For me until september 15 and I want to maximize the time. Also there is a pitiful amount of information on outdoor grows.

LC innoculant colonizes faster than multispore, it doesn't have to germinate it just starts growing. Its going to be one of the fastest ways next to G2G to get a bulk sub ready for outdoor.

you could use 2cc of spore water to make an LC and have it be ready to inoculate 100 jars in a week if you do it right.

alright i am changing my plans, I will try a bulk subtrate (like poo) and an LC. I'll give it a shot, something tells me this will be far superior to PF.

you have no idea... expect a potency increase of around 30% as well as a dramatic size increase... :-D and faster colonization since you'll be using LC.

Yea, and you could take a couple cc's more and knock up some jars now with them at the same time.

Then incubate them side by side LC/Multispore and see which one finishes faster.

This will also give you a backup in case something happens to the LC.

Plus it makes it more fun to watch.
